an exhaust? no you don't need one for a short shifter, actually that has nothing to do with a short shifter.

just be careful with cheap parts like that, i have heard stories of them breaking during shifting. i really don't know how, but still. you get what you pay for.

here is i link you can learn on how to install one, as well as the bushings, which will make the shifting alittle more firmer:

i think he was referring to exhaust because of other peoples stories of the shifter rattling on a bigger than stock exhaust

If your exhaust is stock you will not have to remove it to install the shifter. You will however, have to get the car off the ground in order to install it. Have fun! I have put shifters in dsm's and nissans but putting one in my ek was a testament to my patience. USE THE BUSHINGS THAT COME WITH THE KIT!

Mine is a fidanza (yes, they make shifters) and it only cost me 18 bones at Advance Auto. (they ordered it through Arrowspeed, and I got a discount since I used to work there) I've had mine in for 6 months with no problems. Did I mention that slam gears?

PSA:

Short shifters do not make your car faster. They do not let your transmission change gears faster. They are purely cosmetic, and in the same right, are purely on preference.

One thing to think about is that a short shifter also gives you a slower response time. By putting the shifter further away from the steering wheel while running a road course. This causes more time that your hands are off the wheel.

Any "speed" you may think you gain from shifting "faster" are pure placebo.
