Default type r vs b20 with type r head???

im not trying to beat a dead horse, nor start a heated debate but...

i have a jdm b18c type r motor in my storage building.
i also have a b20b in my storage building.
for the last couple of weeks i have been thinking about putting the type r head on the b20 block.
what i was wondering/looking for is this,
can i make more torque eariler in the rpm band, and by how much?
im wondering about stock vs stock, what would the differences be?
are the gains worth the cost/effort?
this will not be a street/strip car, but simply my daily driver.

a few of my buddies are telling me to just enjoy the oem reliability of the very low mileage R motor.
but im craving a lil bit more torque.

anyone have any thoughts? or forsee any issues i might encounter?

thanks in advance

By simply changing blocks, you are going to lose allot of power. If it were me, I would live with your C5 for now and build your B20 block on the side. Do a fresh hone, put some rods and pistons in it and have it tuned. What are your current mods?

To clean rices idea. Its what im doing right now.

Get a b20 block and build that ont he side. They are relatively cheap to build.

Stock B18C-R vs Stock block B20VTEC

The B18C-R would probably have more HP in the higher RPMs. But im sure the B20VTEC will produce more tq and better low-mid range.

Depending on purpose, i would choose the B18C-R for drag/street car and choose the B20VTEC for a daily driver.

The B20VTEC can be equally reliable. Its a friendly low comp motor that you dont need to rev high for power.

Personally if i have time and money to spare i would swap the B20 block. Additional expenses - VTEC conversion kit, HG, FMU/Tune.

thats what i was afraid of. being lower compression it may actually lose power.
but as i said before, im not going to the track, it is strictly for DD.

it really is the earlier torque im looking for though.

could i see substancial gains by going slightly overbore with higher comp pistons in the R motor?
