billet vs. steel mounts
I'm looking into a set of mounts for a swap and some companies offer both materials for the mounts(ex. Innovative). What is the difference? Is there a strength difference or is it just for the shiny look of the billet?

you are somewhat right, the advantage to the aluminum mounts is that they are one piece. the steel mounts on the other hand are a few pieces welded together. i have no doubt in innovative's welds.

Yes some what, but billet aluminum mount is stronger.

Well looks like I'll be saving a few bucks and getting the steel mounts.(I like the flat black look over the big shiny bling anyways, didn't want to spend money on something I didn't like how it looked if it had no advantage.)

But aluminum is less dense so you can use more of it.
It's hard to say if one is stronger than the other just by looking at material choice. The proportions/design are what make the strength.

Innovative makes some flat black billet mounts. I have some on my swap. It gives your swap a clean more stock look
(these mounts are black, i dont know why they look purple. its probably because of the lighting)

but if you're going to get innovated get them thru Phillip. He has some of the best deals
