Default Lifetime alternator

Is there an alternative to the "lifetime alternators" all the auto parts stores sell? I have just replaced my alternator for the third time in less than four years.

I just can't imagine that Honda would install this same garbage at a dealer. Do they install new, or do they just have a better company they get their alternators from?

Basically my question is when (not if) it does fail again in a year where can I get one that will last? Is my only choice a new one? Would the reman from Majestic be any different than the crap I get at Kragen?

thanks from a guy who is sick of changing alternators every 11 months.

i feel your pain...

im going through that crap with autozone. except i"m swapping out alternators every 1 to 3 months!! they suck.... never buy anything from autozone unless your car is on the side of a highway (and your out of state=tow is too expensive), you need to get to work within a few hours or something last minute is urging you to get your car on the road again ASAP! yes im going to diss autozone in the Massassachusetts state. I've had problems with their cv axles, alternators, batts.... hell almost everything i got from them I've had to figure out how to return it for a refund. Hell, one of their associates tried to sell me an "axle belt" WTF is an "axle belt?" i wanted to hit that bastard with the shitty axle after i heard those words...

I've had better longevity of my reman auto parts off of various people on ebay!

it would be nice if i could score a brand new alternator from honda for under $200.

I suggest bring it to a starter/alternator shop that actually does rebuilds. I bring my stuff to one and they replace everything and can even rewind it for more amps. when you get an autozone "remanufactured" alternator or starter they just replace whats wrong with it, if it just needs bearings thats all it gets but it still might have the 200,000 mile old voltage regulator which craps out on you in a month.

hey SupraRXZ, have you had any weird noises from the alternator?

"when you get an autozone "remanufactured" alternator or starter they just replace whats wrong with it, if it just needs bearings thats all it gets but it still might have the 200,000 mile old voltage regulator which craps out on you in a month. " from crx jimmy, i guess i got what i paid for considering those remans from autozone are cheap as hell in price!

It's not that the alternator is not covered under warranty, It just gets a little old replacing it every 11 months. They give you a lifetime warranty on it because they know it is a POS!

I've bought a 3 year warranty alternator from Partsource. VERY VERY VERY DISAPOINTED WITH IT! Less then 5000kms after I installed it it caught on fire. I returned it and got a new one, right out of the box the bearing was making horrible noises. About 2000kms later and I'm changing it again. Good thing it only takes me 30 minutes to remove it or I'd be pissed.

Exactly which alternator from Kragen do you use? According to their website they only have two with a lifetime warranty and one of them is the Autolite POS and the other is some no brand called worldwide alternator. No way in hell I would buy an alternator from there with only a one year warranty.

Hopefully the third one is a charm here.

i never use the OE reman cuz it is like u said where the factory replaces just the bad parts, but the autolite reman or premium reman is only a re-used casing. i either use that one or just buy the new one. employee discount doesnt hurt either. lol yea but thats the one i use no problem yet on either my crx or hatch.

I had the same experience. I really made use of the warranty. I wish I would have had my original alternator rebuitl instead of buying some POS rebuild. Live and learn.
