swap trans or swap to hydro
My d16z6 is mated to a l3 trans and i think its prolly just the stock lx version. My question is that my trans is now making a whine and was told by others that i should replace b4 too long. SO do i replace it with a hard to find si civic between 90-91 or get a actuator conversion kit to hydro and just get a stock z6 trans. If ne one knows where i can get ne of these parts it would be greatly appreciated.
How are you with working on your car? Replacing whining bearings in the transmission isn't that hard. If you're going to replace a 15+ year old transmission with another 15+ year old transmission, chances are you'll have a whine again before you know it if the person who had it before you didn't take care of it.
If you're going to replace it anyhow though, either way is fine that you mentioned (cable tranny or cable/hydro conversion). The local junk yard to me has lots of Hondas, and lots of them still have transmissions...check your yards, and you can also check out http://www.carpart.com

i dont know if its just bearings though because it also will pop at other times when i accelerate hard so i dont know what it is and am wondering to just convert it to hydro and put a z6 tranny in it.
the hasport hydro conversion for d-series just came out.. its $250, and i think mista bone does d-series trans rebuilds for cheaper than that.. cause youll probably spend another $50 or $60 pulling one from a yard, when you could just yank yours out, send it to mista bone for rebuilding, and be done with it.
I would maybe pick up a second trans in the meantime and rebuild yours if its your DD. Otherwise, try to find an Si trans and rebuild that. If you need to consult something for a rebuild, there are a few links in the FAQ, I also have a rebuild thread myself, it isn't hard at all once you get the trans. out.
DaX makes a great point about replacing an old transmission with another old transmission in that the next one you install could be just as beat up. If you don't crack open the next transmission and inspect it, you're merely guessing at its condition and possibly wasting your valuable time.
