Default LSD Tranny

Does anyone out there have any experience with the LSD Transmission? Is it really worth the extra 300 bucks to get as compared to the Y1 J1 or S1? Of those three which is the better?

Thanks

i've got a Y1 w/ LSD and i really like it..same gearing as the ITR tranny. i've really noticed it when i'm turning hard and giving a lot of throttle, where it used to squeal tires it doesn't anymore..i also feel more of a balance when launching..it feels more like the car is pulling itself equally. i just thought of a good comparison..go drive a civic with the driverside axle twice as long as the passenger, then drive one with equal length axles and intermediate shaft..it's kinda like that. hope this helps

it wouldnt be "as compared to", lsd is a system in the tranny, so you can get a y1, j1, or s1 with lsd. as for which is the best, it depends on what you plan to do. I believe the s1 has the closest gearing, but I think my y1 w/lsd is geared close enough for my tastes. I think lsd is a worthwhile upgrade for 300, I've noticed a ton of difference in traction compared to my stock setup. Even with balding tires I still dont spin wheels very much. Once I get my new wheels/tires on, this thing is gonna be stuck to the road. A search might bring up some good stuff, this topic has been discussed a lot.

Hell yeah Mine is going in anyday now. This is the tranny with just about the same short gearing as the JDM Integra Type R. How do you like yours? I am hoping that I will be at higher RPMs in second with this than with my current Si tranny when autocrossing on the local super tight autocross courses I run. Good luck finding this tranny for only $300 extra dollars though. I got lucky, I heard that this one goes for about $1K stand alone, don't know what a non-lsd Y1 or S1 goes for.

I got my YS1 LSD from HMO.com for 525$ extra instead of the 300$ extra. Pretty sweet deal i thought.. I haven't put the engine swap in my car yet.. this summer all the work shall be done. Nevada Silver State Classic here I come!

Correct me If I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Y1 doesn;t have the same gearing as the ITR. That would be the YS1..... pretty sure.

Anyways, I would definitely go for it man, LSD kicks ***. Y1 and YS1 cable trannies are the only two that had an otional LSD. THe J1/S1 trannies (same gear ratios) were not available from the factory with an LSD....

to tell if you have a factory lsd all you have to do is look ttrough the axle input holes, if you can see straight through than it is factory lsd. i have a ys1 with lsd, i paid $675, but that was a "hook up" and i had to wait 3 months before we could find one. if you can afford it and can find one the jdm ys1 with honda lsd is the ****!

What was the car YS1 was originally installed in? Was it Acura Integra GSR 91-93? Does anybody know whether I can swap final drive and LSD to Y2 cable (from Euro SiR)?

Yah, the YS1 was originaly in the jdm 92-93 integra RSi/XSi and the US 92-93 GSR.
This tranny has the same gearing as the 92-01 hydro tranny in the SiR/ITR/CTR, but in cable form. And correct me if I'm wrong here, but it was an optoinal LSD and may not have came in all YS1's

Yeah I am pretty sure that the LSD was optional in the YS1 transmission.

Do the factory have the same style lsd as say my mustang(clutch style). If so does anyone have expeiences getting worn out units. I know a factory mustang diff. only last about 65000 miles or so...

Most of the factory LSDs are gear-type. Some of the ITRs came with viscous LSDs, but I'm not aware of any clutch-type diffs in factory Honda transmissions.

HEY GUYS WATCH OUT WHEN BUYING A YS1 TRANNY BECASUE THE LS TRANNY IS ALSO A YS1!!

i bought a YS1 for my b16 thinking it was a GSR tranny and it ended up being a ls tranny i wanted to kill the f@#ker who sold it to me!!!! a$$...... luckly i only spent 350$ on it.......but still WATCH OUT when buying them.....and i dont think there is a way to tell them apart besides driving on them!!!!!!

and my friend had a b18c3 in his 89 hatchback with a y1 w/lsd and it kicked ***!! not to high revs on the freeway and had plenty off the line!

and i dont like the s1 very much....only because on the freeway it is at like 5000 rpms at like 70mph! very annoying with loud exhaust!
