Default toda a's or ctr intake cam?

I cant decide which one, civic type-r intake cam or a new pair of toda a's for my jdm type-r motor...? I've heard that they make similar pwr, but is it enough of a difference, the ctr would be much cheaper, any experience here from you guys, thanks.

You'll probably see 10 more hp with the spec A's over the CTR cams.

Don't buy CTR cams, it's just the same as ITR cams with 2 or 3 degrees more duration on the intake cam. I bet you wouldn't even see 2 whp gain!

If those are your only choices, then definately toda spec A.

Doesn't it depend on what year the JDM motor is? ANd if it is a USDM motor doesn't the CTR make a bigger difference that 2 whp over 97/98 cams?

Trying to sort all this mess out too.

i just wanted to know...how the hell did this guy get 207 whp using toda A cams..what kinda tuning did he do..someone please let me know..now look at the same car using Toda C cams and gets less power...what the hell is that about???

Toda Spec A Camshafts
Head milled .020"
Mugen Header
Greddy Exhaust
Field SFC-VTEC
B&M FPR

vs.

Toda Spec C Camshafts
Civic Type-R Pistons
Mugen Header
Custom Exhaust
Field SFC-VTEC
B&M FPR
310cc Fuel Injectors
Custom ECU Program

but then i saw this graph... JUN 3 cams

206.0 Horsepower / 139.8 lbft Torque

JUN Type-3 Camshafts
Stock Intake
SMS Header
Stock Exhaust
440cc Fuel Injectors
Hondata Stage 3

all this is from http://www.sgt-racing.com....can someone plese tell how this is possible to get that much power out of toda A cams?? i know its all about tunning but whats good with the other graphs??? r they not tunning correctly or what??

.....ACTUAL vs. SAE corrected whp.

you gotta learn how to read the graphs. spec C's are kicking *** on the spec A's, period.

IMHO, I wouldn't pull any itr cams to run some ctr cams... not worth the time, expense, or trouble.

Spec A's are the mildest cams i'd get. I sold my cams with 12k on them cause i'll never go back. I've got spec B's right now and spec C's ready to go in.....

00+ ITRs have CTR cams installed from the factory. 97-98 ITR cams have 2-3 degrees less duration on the intake cam. DO NOT get CTR cams. I'm telling you, you won't even see 2 whp.

ITR cams are good midrange cams. I'd keep them and work on something else.

Spec A's are good Skunk type 1's are good cause you won't have to upgrade your valvetrain. Both cams are excellent in my opinion. Bigger cams require more compression otherwise you won't see the gains expected.

The Spec A graph when corrected goes down to about 200 or so.
The Spec C graph was really a half *** tune now that i think back on it. not enough
fuel and no way to make any real adjustments. Still ran well though.
The JUN3 graph had the best header out of the 3, as well as fully programmable
engine management and plenty of fuel to back it up.

Regarding CTR cams, dont waste your money.

Damn I got graphs and everything, thanks guys. Its clear that ctr cams dont do much more than itr cams, are there any other cams I should consider given that you can run w/a stock itr valvetrain like the toda a's and skunk type 1's?

What about Spoon, that's in about the same range power wise, isn't it?

If I run the toda a's do i need to upgrade any valvetrain components to be able to shift @9k, or will I have to keep it below 8 1/2k without upgrading? If I do have to upgrade what would I need portflow outers and retainers???

retainers are always nice to have
otherwise stock springs will work fine.

If you run the A's as a minimum you should upgrade your exhaust valve springs to intake valve springs.
