Default buying 97 prelude- help please.

so i found a SS lude for 2500, crystal metallic blue, 185k miles on it. rear qtr panel was hit but repaired, not repainted (so rear qtr was bondo'd i guess + not repainted) it runs and drives but doesn't pass smog. i'm wondering if these smog results can be fixed by seafoam.

parts that failed smog
HC(PPM)
MAX:55

CO%
MAX: 0.50

anyone wanna help me out?
thanks in advance

im gonna be converting it to manual of course
just wondering if i should rebuild the engine too or if i can beat on it now and swap in a newer engine since its 200k almost

Dont do it. Buy somthing that is in good condition and that meet all state requirements. Even for the damage that was repaired that is still a very low price. Be cautious, if you cant afford a decent one right now, just wait. Buy a 5speed too. It will just save you some headache in the future.

don't even start.

don't get it. especially with a motor with that kind of miles. my 173k motor just started giving me crap and finally died on me. idno but this doesn't sound so promising. good luck.

i thought the price was around where it should be, i dont know about where you live but in CA you can get a 5spd 120kabt for 5k, i just thought since the body's already in rough shape and the engine's close to exploding i might as well turn it into a project. Its not that i can't afford a decent one or anything, its that theres no "decent" ones for a reasonable price. so i was thinking, i could buy something like this basically as a shell and build it ground up so i know the history to it, rewriting the book if you will. just wondering if theres a way to get it to pass smog if i buy it
so heres what i was thinking:
50$ paint job (200$ actually ) + tons of reverse hammering gives me like 2 weeks to get the engine close to healthy again. the seller says the tranny hasnt exploded or felt funny yet, which i found to be really odd.. arent SS's time bombs? 190k should of murdered it by now right? ill check it out later when he emails me the VIN.

so any ideas on what i should do?
or what i would need to do when i get the car?
last question: if i did a manual swap, do i have to register it as a manual base? or still as an auto.. thats manual

Hold up hold up. You mean this car isnt local? with a 2.5k price tag and 190k miles you need to test drive and examine everything in person. Dont just take pics or the sellers word for anything. It sounds to me like its not local... is it?

I need to test drive and inspect personally before you go through with this. Please trust me on this. And if its not passn smog then its not performing to factory specifications. So what I would do is LOOk somewhere else. Does the car have a clean tittle?
