the stock hood
Holy ****!!! How much does that bad boy weigh? I was working on my engine today and I was just sitting there holding it up for a while then I started playing with it and I come to the conclusion that its heavy as ***** and I was wondering how light carbon hoods are for our cars. I would want it to be the same color as my car though, you can paint those things right?
I mean I was messing around with my bro's s2k and his hood weighs nothing compared to mine, I know its smaller but still the difference is enormous.

stock =37.2 pounds off my 05 lx silver. bought a carbon hood oem style and now that is about 6.4 pounds and in my veiw looks alot better. i was worryed at first that the carbon wouldent go well but it does in my mind.
i thought carbon's were in the 12 lb rangee.... im gunna have to do some searching.
During my search i found this, I cant link picture but check it out.

i also found most carbon hoods range from 8ish lbs for OEM style's to 12lbs for the ugly Evo styles.

very nice. it probably plays a big factor that you're taking the weight right off of the drive wheels too. people say that you can't possibly notice, but i think gas mileage might increase. maybe turn-in feel.

Only problem with that, is that your hood would be extremely flexible and extremely brittle. So, paint would crack, and then the plastic itself, would crack.
Stick with fiberglass, carbon fiber, or Kevlar hoods.

Check this bad boy from the UK... CF doors, bonnet etc, and he's recently added trunk and wings... Doing things a little differently from the JDM norm, and i think it's got a great modern edgy look to it. I think he may even be going for a Cf bumper but i havn't spoken to him in a while.
He's lost a LOT of weight from stock, and it's stripped out. Props to the guy IMO. Although not to everyone's tastes, it looks awesome when polished up, and it bloody quick!

j/w btw..
if you paint a cf hood, wouldnt there be alot of added wait from the paint and primer itself? therefore kind of defeating the purpose of having in the first place for weight savings.
