Default Rev Limit 7800?

When cold?

At that meet today (see my other thread) I gave a runby for everyone because I was the only one there with any mods really, and I was coming up on redline and right about when I shifted, would have been 8000, it cut the engine, i was surprised at first but I guess it makes sense.

Anyone else have this happen or know that it exists?

I actually had this happen to me a few mornings ago. I was running late and just ripped it and no vtec because its cold but then right before I was about to shift around 7800 the gas cut. I thought maybe my eyes deceived me but I guess there still good.

I can say that I have had the same issue at times. Getting on the highway going to work in the morning. I redline it and hit the limiter early.

I always go to 8,000rpm when punching it then shift feels like it pulls hard all the way there.

No we are talking about it being earlier... when the car is at operating temp its 8500... but when its cold, turns out it drops to 7800

Umm you guys really shouldnt be redlineg your engines when cold. I will not redline my engine until it is HOT. In the morning this equates to about 3-4 miles of driving, i dont even pay attention to the water temp, i wanna know my engine is hot before it will see anything over 4000.

Anyway the computer prolly doesnt let you hit 8000 for a safety reason, along with you not getting any VTEC.

Well when its COLD i dont take it up that high, but it was 60 today in texas... plenty warm enough for oil to be flowing freely.

Keep it up and much worse things will happen then your engine cutting out. Your not supposed to redline a cold-started vehicle. Gotta let it warm up or you could cause some serious damage eventually. If you don't have time to let it warm up then keep the RPMs way down.

Unfortunately Honda hasn't yet installed the idiot lights on the tachometer in the same vein as the old M5, that has a 4 stage rev limit depending on temp IIRC.

Such as? I would assume honda knew well enough to set the limit where it is when it is cold to prevent damage.

A 7800 RPM limit is way to high on a dead-cold engine IMO. It should be at 4K.

Well like I said, it was 60 degrees outside, and the car had only been sitting maybe an hour. It wasnt cold, just wasnt up to op temp. When its cold, I dont push it.

Good idea when its still cold i don't go past 3500rpm until the bars are filled half way.

You have to remember, operating temperature for the oil in your motor is ~220 degrees Fahreinheit. At 60F, the oil in your motor is definitely not lubricating to its full ability.

Just because the ambient air temp is 60F, does not mean the oil in your motor is up to operating range. Wait around 10 minutes of driving to push the engine.

I know the rev limit is 8000rpm, it's off just like all the other honda/acura's I have had. I shift at 8400-8500RPM. Anyone else? Oh yeah just installed the injen CAI it's great. Hey guys with the DC race header is it worth it?

Occasionally....but not very often. The rev limit isn't "off" it's set at 8500RPM by Honda. 8k is just what the dash reads.

Really I get the header for cost. I guess what I meant is any noticeable gains?

There's gains alright. I shaved a half second off my quarter mile time with the header and CAI, but some people (including myself) have been having issues with flex-pipe cracking and potentially leaning out the motor.

Wow, why would you people want to rev a cold engine that high?!?!?!?!?!??!!! I let my car warm up for about 5 mins before I leave and then I keep the revs under 4K or so until I get to full operating temp. That seems like the logical thing to do IMO.
