someone help me please timing belt trouble
ok i replaced the timing belt on a 1997 honda prelude H22A4...well now the car is in worse condition the timing belt is slapping the timing cover and every time i start to come to a stop the car dies now if anyone might have any idea on what it might be please let me know
If you reused your autotensioner, that could be an issue. Every timing belt job I had problems with was when I reused the autotensioner. Since I started replacing them with every timing belt job, I haven't had any issues.
If the timing belt is that loose, the autotensioner sounds bad.

And if you're going to replace the autotensioner when you try to fix this, I'd highly recommend going to the manual tensioner. It only takes a couple of hours, and it's worth the piece of mind. You won't have to keep replacing autotensioners either.
There are a couple of good write ups on here. Just search for h22 manual tensioner. there are a few parts you can reuse if you don't want to buy everything. Also, on most of the write-ups, they have an adapter plate in the parts list. You don't need it. Here is a write-up that I used. It was VERY useful and straightfoward.

If you do exactly how the write-up tells you, it should cost you around $120 from honda in parts. If you go with all new parts(except the adapter plate), then it's $210ish.

are you referring to automatic tranny? if so then yes all h22's had auto tensioners. converitng to manual is the safe route.
if your car is stalling out, your gonna have bigger problems than just replacing the tensioner and properly setting up your timing. its just a suggestion, but you may want to have a tech look at it

I would take it to a tech anyway. Get someone to do it that can check your timing after they get the belt on just in case you have jumped timing with a loose belt. ALWAYS check the belt tightness BEFORE you start the car.

well the belt was tight before i started it....the auto tensinor was bad....i replaced it now its just stalling out the timming is good i had a tech look at it...
now its time to do a compression test and when you see one or more cylinders w/ barely any compression then it will be time to pull the head and replace some valves.
