Default The usual Honda motor burning 1 Quart per Oil Change issue...

My 96 Integra and my brother's 98 Accord both burn about a quart of oil between 3-5k oil changes.

My past 3 G2 Integra's all did the same eventually.

I've never assessed the problem because it's hardly an issue, but my brother wants his fixed.

What is the usual culprit? The Headgasket? Valve seals? Rings?

Keep in mind- none of these cars had smoke at startup, or burned/lost coolant.

Thanks!

did you always engage the Vtech at small intervals? or very often with the cars in question?

The Accord is the only Vtec engine.

My 96 Integra is an LS, the 3 G2's were all LS/GS's...Non-Vtec.

All 4 cars in question were bought from 80-120k miles already on them, and pretty much had the issue from purchase- on.

I don't drive hard on any of my integra's. The most I do is put a lot of pressure on the tires taking turns a bit faster, but a stock B18 feels broken compared to any other car I've owned (Mr2-Turbo, Rx7-Twin Turbo) so I hardly ever feel it worth it to rev anywhere near Redline or past 5k even when "spirited" for that matter...

Oh- And all 4 cars were previously owned by "older" folk,...But you never know...lol

I dont know but my 90 integra has over 200K and still burns no oil...i recently sold my 94 integra ls and had 140K and doesn't burn oil at all but im looking forward to getting another G3. I think its on how you take care of the motor not the recent past owner if you bought it from them and it doesn't burn oil till you owned.

No. None of the cars mentioned that I bought was I told "This doesn't burn ANY oil!" and then the first month I drove it- it burns oil.

They all (I assume, otherwise was TOLD) burned about a quart between oil changes before I owned them, and they all had 3-5 owners before me so it could be anyone's "abuse" that caused it. Otherwise their tranny's are great, they don't "leak" oil, loose any coolant, idle fine, etc. etc. No other signs of real abuse. I stay away from abused cars as much as possible.

My 96 Integra I just bought was owned by a 55 year old man for 85k of it's life.....

It's not necessarily abuse. Some engines just burn oil when they get a lot of miles on them - even if they've been driven gently, even if they've had the oil changed every 3K miles.

It's really not a big deal, either. Just don't let the oil level get too low.
