I would imagine the p28 would be similar.

"rev safely" and "remove rev limiter" don't belong together. =P

Depends on your modifications. Remember, D-series rods are like toothpicks. The rod bolts are also extremely weak. Spun bearings become a factor with that.

I'd say keep the stock rev limiter on a stock motor unless you upgrade to ARP rods bolts and H-Beam rods (or similar).

The rod to stroke ratio and reciprocating mass issues must be addressed. Your redline is there for a reason.

^^ true to a point. The stock A6 is not worth anything above 7200 where the fuel cut off is. It will not make any usable power. revving that high is pointless on a stock motor, unless you are just trying to destroy it.
Even after the bottom end upgrades you still have the rod stroke ratio to worry about, It will put EXTREME pressure on the cylinder walls above the stock redline.
I am pursuing an engine build with modified stroke and piston height, I hope what I have planned will work out.
I'm still not going to rev past 7500, but I hope to make significant power gains in the stock rev range....
