Default pager alarm

I'm getting my alarm installed next week...and when I was going over what I wanted with the installer, he recommended not getting a pager. Keeping in mind that he could've just tried to sell it to me for an extra 100- to 300-dollar-sale like other places had tried to do, he explained that the FCC severely restricts the range of car pagers. Back in the day, car alarm pagers had the same range as cell phones and actually paged you through your cell phone. But the FCC was "concerned" about folks walking around with something with such long-range frequency.

So the installer told me that the range of today's pagers, which according to him are "all the same no matter what brand", can be shortened/handicapped/rendered pretty much useless--by its location, etc.

Okay so basically what he was telling me was that the pagers are useless. He has 15+ years experience installing alarms so I think I can trust him. But of course it's up to you.
