This past Aug. my compressor blew out the pressure plug and shot refergerant all over the side of my header. Since then I haven't done anything with it, and now I would like to get it fixed.

I've got a compressor on the way, but I called and talked to the folks about flushing out the system and checking for blocks and leaks and they said I need to change out the receiver(dryer, filter) And that possibly the condensor valve is getting stuck and that is what caused the pressure plug to pop.

So they said put the compressor and receiver on disconnected and then they would flush out the system, and check for blocks and leaks.

Does this seem reasonable?

If it includes recharging the system, it's not bad. Granny's Crypsler mini van has a bad AC system because a hose chafed through. (Wonderful bit of engineering there) Replacing the piece and the receiver/dryer was estimated at $750. The hose is expensive because it comes with a few other parts built onto it. (More great engineering)

 

the reciever/dryer is like $90 new if I remember right....

That price really isn't bad

 

Majestic has the receiver for 72+shipping.

Honda said to do the whole job ~ $1200.

For just the flush and charge ~$400.

Other shop flush and charge ~$300.

I'm just unsure if I want to totaly replace all the seals now or cross my fingers and hope for no leaks.

 

do you use ac if not takeing out the ac system would improve parasitic drag saving you money in the long run..

 

Its required that I own a car with AC, and since thats the only car I own either the prelude goes or I fix the AC.

 

There was this jetta that ran the ac on while they were racing and purged all there freon.. we went to autozone and bought 50/50 freon that was compatible to the ac system just to find the leak we just filled it and try to pin point it with soap and water found out it was the pin inside the service valve ..lol
I think jiffy lube does refills but, never had it flushed i think the price you were quoted is pretty good

 

whatever seals you take off you will need to replace it. flushing is always a good thing to do, and to see if you have any leaks, they will vacuum pump the system to take all the moisture out, if the vacuum gauge does not pull down to 30 there is a leak in the system

Is there compatability issues with different seals?

I changed some piping from the condensor to the compressor, and the seal that came with the pipeing didn't seal for ****. I was given a new seal by my mechanic, but I don't want to run into any more problems then I already will.

 

Update:
I've picked up all the equipment. I will be installing this w/in the week hopefully. When I go to do this, should I install everything w/ the hoses unhooked, and the caps/plugs on the dryer? Or should I just comletely install everything?

Any other last min tips?
