Default b16a troubles. HELP

I was driving the other day and i noticed my exhaust sounded a bit different, and i backfired a couple of times which RARELY happends. I thought nothing of it.

Yesterday, my vtec started acting up. My vtec controller was set to kick in at 5000 rpms, but it would engage at 3500. Not only that but the vtec would kick in, then out, in,out,in, out and so on. Until i would punch it until vtec would just stay in.

This was starting to scare me, so i set vtec to kick in at 9000 rpms so it wouldnt come on anymore. and the problems jsut got worse.

Later that day, my car started backfiring like a ****. Everytime i would give it half gas, it would start backfiring rapidly, almost as if a machinegun was coming out of my tailpipe.

I run on higher octane gas, my oil is fine, plugs and wires fine. Im unsure why this is happening. Only thing is my vtec solenoid leaks oil pretty damn bad.... but it has always been doing that, and this problem was not occuring before.

Anyone help is greatly appreciated as to what i should do.

Thanks

what vtec controller?
vafc, fields...?

b/c maybe you did mess with the fuel if you have a vafc.

i would reset the ecu, double-check all wiring, and see if you still have the problem.

and maybe you could try it without the vtec controller installed.

sounds like your cam timing is off....rotate the motor to TDC and check if the cam marks line up...if they have slipped, return them to TDC and do a compression test on the motor as a quick check to make sure you didnt bend any valves...
also pick up a gasket for your solenoid...only costs a couple bucks at honda
