Default starter troubles

Hey all, I have a 91 civic hatch. The thing would start but off and on the starter would just spin and not engage the flywheel so I figured, bad starter. Long story short, got a new starter and it just spins like before. I'm not a honda guy at all so this has me baffled, any info. is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

I thought that too, flywheel is in great shape. I also forgot to add that I beat the **** out of the starter with a hammer and it started fine for two days and then BLAH. Like i said, I'm baffled

My girlfriend owned the car, she traded it to my dad, it worked fine until he tried to sell it at the lot and one day it just started happening.

so you put a new starter in ? maybe defective starter . it sounds like the bendix is not popping out of the starter . you can take it to autozone .ect. to have it tested. also did you try to clean all the terminals

I did man, I took it to schmucks and I saw the gear pop out and everything. They tested it like 5 times and all was good. I've cleaned the terminals and made sure they're all tight and all that.
