Where is a cheaper place to find this? A Crank Pulley
thinking of getting one right here

found it a bit cheaper elsewhere.
anyone have these on a DOCH engine?
anything I should know about?

I personally am not a fan of underdrive pulleys. The OEM pulley have a dampner on them witch absorbs shock, thus helping to improve the longevity of your oil pump and your engine. The aftermarket ones do not have this dampner. However, there is one company that makes a lightweight pulley with a dampner, this would be the best option. I should also say, that not everyone has bad luck with lightweight pulleys, some people go for over 100K miles on them, other people claim that the pulley messed up there motor after only 25K miles.
Also, the pulley itself is not worth it. For $200 you are only going to add maybe 1 whp. Also it is a PIA to get the damn pulley off of the car in the first place.

I wouldn't put money in them, if I were you. I'd say that they'd be a showpiece only. If you want to doll up your engine bay, then go for it, just stay away from the crank pulley. You don't want to hurt your engine.

See, if they were like Steeda, and made a OEM spec balanced crank pulley/UD pulley... like they do for the newer Mustangs like mine, then it would be ok...
But like everyone has said... I wouldn't put one like UOR, or AEM. Too cheap + not balanced = excessive, premature crank wear.

Dyno sheets?
And our cars have 2 front wheels.
And I SERIOUSLY doubt you are going to get 6 HP.
And second... the Honda crank is balanced within 2 ounces because of it's crank PULLEY. take off the pulley and see how much crank bearing slap you will have.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons you get a performance increase
Yeah, that's one of the reasons you get a performance increase
And let me make it clear, I am only replacing ONE pulley not a set. It shaves off counter weight of the engine, which the Honda engine DOEST need according to credible sources and its a good performance increase. 20-30HP and about 6 at the wheel
Killtodie, u think they would advertise their product if it only gve +1 hp? No, 99% of the tests out there are rigged somehow.
Either they test the car in stock form in SUPER HOT DAYS, then they test it again at midnight, or they test it stock, then with mods, and then with the mods+crank pulley. Hoping the other mods will bring up the crank pulley's HP benefit.
The only real people to trust are people that have installed it. U have about 8 people here telling u not to, what more do u want?

Who are "they"?
Because I read in numerous publications and talked to shops that deal with Civics and they all tell me the complete opposite.
A lighter and smaller crank pulley takes of counterweight of the engine. It has proven HP gain and is the cheapest upgrade for the most HP you can get. It also adds tourqe.
Not to mention, since the pulley itself is smaller, it will spin the same, but there is a decrease in output power to teh AC compressor, power steering and water pump. Now the Honda Acura performance states that after extensive testing there is absolutely no noticeable drop in power steering or the water pump and they NEVER ran into a problem when it was done right. Honda themselfs say that its ok if the waterpump is only working at 80% capacity. Hense, there is a 20% releave of workload from the engine to power these things.
So please dont tell me otherwise beause I did my research and only came here to get your repsonce if anyone here did it to their car, and im not talking about "yeah, I got the pulley installed and a year later my crankshaft broke" what you forgot to mention was the t3 turbo you installed yourself and mismatched the header. Because like I said, when done right, it has never had a problem

Just a quick question, Killtodie... Do you ever listen to or read anything that anybody else tells you?
You often come in here with some idea's that people advise you against, yet you'll only go and do it anyway.
So yeah, ignore all the advice that seasoned and experienced Honda chaps are telling you, and go and buy yourself an unbalanced pulley. I'll see you at the scrappyard in a few thousand miles.

I was just wondering what a DOCH engine was too in his original post, I hope he wasn't meaning DOHC in which are cars aren't even dohc, in that case he is in the wrong forum.

you should take the time to research some grammar too.
But yeah another question, vantage or someone said that the aem underdrive pullies are cheap and they wear the engine down beacuse they don't have a dampener? Or were you talking about the crankshaft pullies? Also I am just getting them for looks because I want to do the whole white/red/blue theme, and maybe get some hp while I am at it. I figure If I get intake/headers/exhaust/pullies Ill at least notice some kind of difference. I mean I got the v2 intake and I didn't really notice anything, except for when I hit vtec it feels like the rpms climb a tad faster because I compared a few videos when I didn't have the intake and when I didn't. Also it sounds really cool
Thats why I got it.

Killtodie's posts are the best they always turn into arguments....
I know on 7thgen there have been mixed reviews about underdrive pulleys. I know the AEM ones are not in question here but for the record most people have killed their alternators with them but I will say not everyone had a problem. When it comes to the Unorthodox crank pulley some people have had problems and others have been running one for awhile and haven't. In my opinion you will gain something from using one (how much is questionable) but because like others have said because it doesn't have a damper you do run the risk of doing damage. If you're willing to take the risk than more power to you.

^^^ But that's the point... sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, all for minimal, if any gain.
I don't see the point personally, we all know you can't polish a turd.
Save the cash and effort (plus the money you might end up wasting on future problems that it might bring up, eg the notorious alternator issue), and either go K Swap or buy a DC5 or something...
Just my 2ps...

You're soo angry. I didn't say to get AEM like I said alot of people had problems with them. Also I wasn't sayin that it's unbalanced, my point is that it doesn't have a dampered. Without one you run more of a risk of causing damage. Like ONLYuk7thGEN said, do what you want it's your car.

you seem to be mr. know it all, so why bother asking questions?
btw, the "where can i find this cheaper" threads are getting annoying, i feel that it might be because you paid $2000 to get a rebuilt transmission.
