Default Just some pics of our fab shop -

- Here's one of our fabricators making some dimple die gussets for triple_s1x's STi.

- Some pictures of our sweet sheer and break.

- STi main hoop all welded up, dimple die gussets halfway done.

- Other part of our shop with a couple steel tables that we made, drill presses, old *** lathe, Mitler Bros. tubing notcher, POS Jet bandsaw.

- STi main hoop before the gussets are put on.

15,000 sq. ft.

All of the building below except the way back part with the closed garage door that's fenced in. We do parts installs, dyno tuning, etc. too so it's not all for fabrication.

It's triple_s1x's. He'll mostly be doing HPDE's this year. It's going to be a 4 point roll bar for now.

We're located just north of Joliet.

cool, just fyi, nasa/scca require that diagonal to be 1 piece. Beautiful work though.

NASA CCR

15.6.6 Main Hoop
The main roll cage hoop should be as wide as the full width of the interior and must be as close to the roof as possible without violating CCR section #15.6.20 Inspection. One continuous length of roll bar tubing shall be used as the main hoop. The main hoop must consist of not more than four (4) bends maximum, totaling one hundred eighty (180) degrees +/- ten (10) degrees.

15.6.7 Diagonal Brace
At least one (1) diagonal brace shall be used in the same plane as the main hoop. One end of the diagonal brace shall attach to the corner, or horizontal part, of the main hoop above the driver’s head, within twelve (12) inches of the driver’s-side corner. The other end of the diagonal brace shall attach to the mounting plate (or to the main hoop as close to the mounting plate as practically possible) diagonally opposed to the driver’s head (passenger floor).

I don't believe that is true for the diagonal brace. It's mentions only that the main hoop and the halo hoop (option 2) need to be of one continuous piece of tubing.

I have been researching the rules for a couple of years and I have been told it needs to be one piece. . .I guess you have to interpret the rules carefully. It specifically tells you where each of the two ends needs to attach. Your interpretation effectively gives the brace four ends.

Well, here are the rules for SCCA, which implies that the horizontal bar should be one piece but if it doesn't extend from the passenger side of the main hoop all the way to the driver's side that a second diagonal must be added (like if the harness bar is only for the driver's side seat).

" D. Main Roll Hoop:
1. Main roll hoop (behind the driver) shall extend the full width of the driver/passenger compartment and shall be as near the roof as possible. It shall incorporate a diagonal lateral brace to prevent lateral distortion of the hoop (See Figure 8). Any number of additional reinforcing bars are permitted within the structure of the cage. It is required that the horizontal brace behind the driver’s seat (described in Section 9.4.2.J.) continue from the diagonal to the passenger side main hoop upright or that a second diagonal be installed in the main hoop. "

Fact is I've met some people that write these rule books and they don't know what they're talking about.

My boss owns the business. We rent out the space, it's around $3000/month but my boss is friends with the owner of the building so it's a bit cheaper than it would normally be.
