Default Integra LS Rev Limiter

Just bought an LS and wanted to take it to the drag strip to see how she performs before modding her.

Can someone tell me how far I can rev her safetly becuase I think the ECU is chipped and I'm not sure if the stock limiter is still there.

Thanks!

I shift at 7200Rpm Just a little bit before stock cut off. You can shift at 8000 rmp if you want but its not super safe, even 7200 is not very good if you do it all time. What I mean is if you shift all the time at 7200-8000 it aint gonna last, just depend how much your are pushing it. If you want safe shift at 3000rpm

Also it really doesnt matter how "high" your car can shift, your going to want to shift when your car stops making gains in power. Now if you have a fairly stock car it is going to be before the redline. Reving up higher is just kinda pointless.

I understand that. Except the LS motor in in a 93 Civic hatch and the cluster redline at 7k doesn't apply to this engine. That is why I'm asking how far I should rev the stock block

Gotcha! I think the 90-91 DA's were 6800, and the newer tegs were 7200. Again im not 100% im sure a search will yeild the correct answers.
good luck at the track.

94+s are 6800 on the tach and 7k even on the fuel cut.

If its a stock ecu (no chip/mods/vtec controller) and it goes to 7200 or so, then its likely that the tach is off and not reading correctly (off roughly 2% or so). Either way, I found that going past about 6500 isnt really faster on a stock LS...with an intake, maybe.

Going any higher will not yield you more power, stock LSengines don't make it that high,
So shifting around 6500 will be plenty enough for the track.

damn idiot drag ricers. honda made the stock 6800rpm for a reason, why would you buy the car and not know if its chipped or not?

Lots of good responses, but there always an idiot that has to chime in and offer NOTHING.

First of all, cars are not chipped - ECUs are. I just got the car yesterday and before tearing down the engine for an LSVTEC rebuild, I wanted to baseline her. I don't have the time to pull the ECU to see if it's chipped and so just wanted to take her to the stock redline at the strip.

How much more logical can I get?

Not really. There is a point to it, and that is to be higher in the RPM's so that you don't drop out of your powerband in the next gear. But there is a way to be conservative. The ricers that rip all over town bouncing of the limiter don't realize that its a waste. You should shift a little higher than your peak hp so that the rpm's don't drop before the powerband when u shift. I do see where ur coming from tho.
