Default R18's Drive-by-Wire - Frustration

I was wondering if there was any way to tune the drive-by-wire system to be more responsive or any way to convert the whole set up back to throttle cable. That's probably the only thing I hate on my new car. Anyone out there know? Thanks!

Maybe thats because you have a k20, not R18. Lack of HP + DBW =

+1 on that. You'll just have to get used to it. Converting to cable throttle will require alot of work and will most likely void the warranty on the majority of the vehicle.

I actually have the opposite problem especially when I have my A/C on.
It's just too dang jumpy, even have had passengers complain about the jerky take offs.

I hate it. But hey what can you do? Just live with it i guess! I'm still skeptical about the RSX-S cable throttle conversion so i'll wait for other people's results.

Yeah that thread's a bit old. The program update slightly improves the rev hang but it doesn't eliminate it. I still notice it for sure.!

The DBW is one of MANY factors that makes the car not respond the way you want it to. Honda didn't put performance on top of its priorities for the R18, changing the DBW might actually hinder performance since everything was designed to work in sync with the ECU.

I honestly cant relate to most of these complaints. The DBW system is noticeable at times, but never hinders any performance/driving situations that lead me to bitch about it.

/\ Yeah, I'll have to agree with that, I've noticed a "delay", if you will, with the DBW but all in all it's a good system, haven't had a problem with it.

Yeah on a R18 the DBW is soo annoying... It just doesnt work as quick as regular wire throttle does.... I hate when Im stopped and I try to rew the engine I never know how high it will go.... and it takes 1-2 seconds too long in my opinion....

All in all I think the DBW is ok...I also can tell the difference though...it does have a lag to some extent. There are times I try to hit it and seems to be contemplating the wonders of the universe before it kicks in for me.

It's just one of those things to get used to...they use this in the racing circuit with no real problems so I'm sure they did their homework when releasing it to us. Like it was already said...maybe we need to adjust the way we drive...new technology is teaching us a few things. We might as well get used to it because I'm sure this will be popping up more and more often now.

i'm not saying drive-by-wire is a bad system, but for the R18, it needs implementation. the dbw system on the ap2's are really good and functions like a throttle cable system. i believe honda tuned the r18 this way to increase the gas efficiency. there's probably a way to tune the system via ECU tuning. i checked hondata. there's nothing available from them yet.

i think that the base model 8th gen civics were made just for gas efficiency and mostly for automatic transmissions. no one with an auto tranny has any complaints with the DBW system i dont think. so we just have to get used to it i guess. i have no complaints with mine, and niether do my passengers.

you can get used to it, but many of us feel that this lag in responsiveness could be fixed and improved.
