DOES ANYONE KNOW ABOUT WHEEL BOOTS FOR ANTI-THEFT LIKE THE ONES COPS USE
WHATS GOOD..IM BUGGED OUT OF MY MIND ABOUT MY CAR GETTING STOLEN JUST LIKE THE REST OF YOU PPL OUT THERE..IVE BEEN LOOKING AT WHEEL BOOTS LIKE THE ONES COPS AND PARKING ENFORCMENT PPL USE TO KEEP YOU FROM DRIVING AWAY.. IVE SEEN THEM ON EBAY AND SOME OTHER SITES ANYFROM $150 TO $ 500.. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM AND HOW EFFECTIVE THEY ARE???????
i would imagine they are pretty effective. just seems like alot of work to do, especially when it's cold snd snowy outside. if you really want to discourage thiefs, get yourself a good alarm, some kill switches, quick release hub, and a theft recovery system.
Your funny guy, are you serious? You know how much work that's gonna be each time you drive somewhere? You know how stupid your going to look locking and unlocking the boot? There's always other normal alternatives-car alarm runs about $150 or you can always pull the ECU(#15) fuse under the hood. I see ppl don't have $150 to spend on a security system but have money to mod your car and worry bout it getting stolen, that's there mistake.

i use the boot (same one parking enforcement uses) and looks are very decieving, it takes less than a minute to put on and off and fits nicely on the floorboard and weighs about 18lbs
can your car still be towed yes. nothing will stop a tow truck. so it really also depends on where and how you park your car.
and on that link, the only reason it was removed was because it was improperly installed and was loose and not snug on the rim.
if its put on correctly there is no way to by pass it unless you cut the arm off.
and there is no way to pick this either.
i used to sell these a couple of years but back then there was no demand for them so i stopped (friend was a distributor and i helped him sell them)
if you want more information on these boots go to mitico.com and send them your address and they will send you the price list and the nearest distributor. these are completely legal to own and use anywhere you can park.
expensive but you get what you pay for.

it doesnt matter at all if these alarrms, safety, locks, quick releases, kill switches and stuff dont work if they have a tow truck.
1.But now they can only steal it with a flatbed .They will def need a truck so that lowers your change of getting ur car stolen.
2.The flat bed wont be able to move the car forward with that thing on the wheel either, and even if they do its going to take a couple of minutes and thats the key to catching thieves.Trying to keep them busy will reallyhelp like killswitches, and stuff like that. You should check your car once in a while and you should have a surveillance camera at your house aiming at the car.Dont get crappy ones, get high def color cameras cuz now you know who to look for.Rporting to the police can then keep them in a watch with a picture.People spend too much money on their engines rather than in security.I plan to spend at least 500 before i do any work. And its prettty safe here in mass i guess,i dont hear about thefts here.

That thread stole 2 hours of my life away and I want them baaaaaack. It was funny up until it turned into nothing but bitching & whining.
Fuel pump killswitch + ECU fuse pull + alarm system < &*(@#$&*(@# flatbed truck usin' thieves
Basically, if they really want it, they'll get it. All you can hope to do is stop stupid punks and meth addicts.

No, you're wrong in a few places.
First off, I used to tow cars to and from a garage as a job (using a flatbed). It will NOT take any longer to winch the car up on the bed if it was rolling or if all 4 wheels are locked. It's a civic, it's 1.3 tons. Those winches aren't stressed by it...at all. If you move fast you can have a car with all four wheels locked up on the bed and be driving away in <2 minutes if you have 2 people, probably less.
Secondly, they don't only need a flatbed. A typical tow truck will work fine - just lift the wheels that the the boot is on. The steering wheel locks when it's in the middle and the car is off - so towing a car with a boot on isn't relatively difficult stuff. Though I'd recommend a flatbed, with a flatbed you don't even need to break in, you can just winch it up the bed, wheels locked 'n all. Unless the guy has mercury switches (tilt sensors) the car's alarm won't even go off.
Surveillance cameras are a good idea I suppose...I wouldn't invest money on 'em - but that's the owner's call.
The one system I've never seen fail has been lo-jack hidden cell phones.
pay 10 dollars a month for the service, all cell phones distributed in the US have to have GPS inside of them for in case of an emergency. Just radio it in with the cell's number (there's a number in the back under the battery, forgot what it's called) and they can track it. Never seen that fail. (now I'm sure I'll get 101 messages saying they had it on their car and it failed) - whatever, I didn't see it.
