Michelin Pilot Exalto Pe2
I am about to buy some new tires in a few days for my daily driver, spirited daily driver. the michelin pilots semm to have some great reviews, top traction and tread life of all the tires in its class, stock replacements. any of you have any experience with this tire. any comments?? I need a tire with about 30k plus miles, I drive my R I currently have Khumo ecsta supra's on there but they are discontinued. i dont want to lose any performance. thanks
Michelin's non-super-high-end Pilots seem kind of meh. That one looks more like one of their all-seasons, like the MX4. I'd keep looking, especially at $100 a pop.
As an aside, I know you were looking for higher-mileage tires, but it looks like Tire Rack has RE010's for $78 each on closeout.

The Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 is a summer tire, not an all-season tire. It's their "budget performance tire", with performance similar to other tires in that class of "bang for the buck tires", which includes some decent tires like the Kumho SPT, Yokohama ES100, Avon Tech M500, Bridgestone RE750, BFG KDW2, and Dunlop Direzza DZ101, as well as some truly crappy tires like the BFG g-Force Sport, Dunlop FM901, and the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 you currently have. The decent ones offer pretty good dry traction, excellent traction in rain, and very good treadlife (25-45K miles).
Basically, if you're looking for "bang for the buck", your best choice in this group is the Kumho SPT, which is a whole lot cheaper than the Michelin and others, but has similar performance. If you're willing to spend a bit more for better performance, consider the previously-mentioned Bridgestone Potenza RE010 (OEM tire) or the supersticky but fast-wearing Falken Azenis RT-615. For a more thorough look at choices in summer tires for the ITR, see this previous post.
Also, don't put much faith in those user reviews on the Tire Rack website. They are very biased because they are only reported by people buying them, which means that you get a lot of positive reports from people who haven't tried a lot of tires and just keep getting the same crappy tires over and over again. So you have crappy tires which get better user reviews than other tires which are clearly better in every way. The test results on their website are far more meaningful.
