Speedo broke, but dont think its the vss
Last night i was on my way home, merging onto the freeway i decided to have a little fun and hit vtec. So i started to floor it and was at like 7000 rpms when i started hitting some wheel hop. So shifted into 2nd and drove, i then looked down at my speedo and it was slowing going down not up. I figured i must either broke or poped lose my vss and just drove home. I pull up in my driveway get out go inside and wait for the motor to cool. I go back out then and look at my vss, everything was plugged and an i gave a litle push on it to make sure i didnt pop out. Everything was fine. I got up the next morning and started my car up and the speedo worked fine. So i figure i just musta freaked something out. Tonight im driving home, and decided to see if it would do the samething. Im getting of the freeway and come to a stop light, it turns green and i take off. As soon as i hit 6500 rpm car bog'd and speedo stopped working again. So im not sure what it is, anyone have any ideas? i have an extra vss and will prolly switch that out just to see, but any insight is helpful.
If your car bogged, it's probably not the VSS, bu one thing you could check is the connector on the VSS. Unplug it and look at the pins for corrosion and such...
ok, I remember way back (i think in '03) that i went through 3 vss sensors by screwing around. I would seriously either take off the intake or gut under the car and take a look. The vss only needs to break that little mounting bracket and raise up about 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch and the the little gears on the teeth strip. Then your vss wont work due to no contact.
As i said I personally went through three of them the first time it went it took me 3 weeks to figure out the vss had cracked before I knew what was up. It broke in such a way I couldn't really tell it was screwed until I pulled it out. just something to think about
