My 91' beast just died need some help
Ok first off it's a 1991 LS-S with 112k original miles on the b18 with no mods just some tuneup stuff like alternator, wires&plugs, distributer etc etc.. Well this my story
Driving down busy intersection at no more than 40mph in 3rd gear @ 2.5k rpm when all of a sudden out of no where I can feal the car try to shut off. In hope to keep it alive before it stalls I push the clutch in the downshift to 2nd but by the time I even could take my foot off the pedal the RPM was already at 0. Car rolls till stop lucky out of the way of a car about to smash into me (light was yellow) I push the car to the side of the road.. I say WTF pissed blah blah. I turn the ignition on wait for CEL to turn off and hear the fuel pump prime. Turn key and it tried to start but AS SOON AS IT even got through its first firing cycle the car instantly dies. I tried the key again and same thing so I walk home get it towed back and call a mechanic. Mechanic comes out pulls the Valve cover and says something like "Well it seems to me like your timing belt has skipped because of the timing tensioner failing" now I dont know what the hell all that is excuse me if im not an engine guru but could I have just messed that up or is my engine toast? I would hope not because this is my virgin 112k mile B18 that I was hoping to do some mods to come summer.. Thanks for your help and advice please dont flame me cause I dont know anything about cars

i say you replace the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump and see if it runs. it's not too hard to do yourself, just search on here for tips if you don't know how.
Yea.. I really need the water pump aswell? Im kind short on cash does the parts have to be like OEM or will a ProStreetOnline.com kit work for like 150$?? Also I know the plugs/wires are new as well as the distributer/alternator and we pulled a plug out and it shows it has spark.. Tank was 3/4 full so it didnt run out of gas. Could it be a clogged fuel filter? Maybe some other type of maintnance that I overlooked when I bought the car it was sitting for a while in a barn and when I drove it home it died on the ride back cause of a faulty alternator discharging the battery but that has been replaced so I know its not electrical..
if you don't replace the waterpump when you do the tensioner, nobodies gonna feel bad for you when it goes out and you overheat your engine and warp a head or f*ck up your block. that's all. it's so easy to do when you have it all apart and it's supposed to be done by now anyways if you haven't yet.
