okay threw 2 codes

1: #po171
the pcm has determined that duing testing, the fuel system for bank 1 was too lean

2: #po170
the pcm has determined during testing, the fuel compensation value for bank 1 exceeded the specified range.

the guy at autozone "suggested" o2 sensor but wasn't sure. i also filed up with gas after that and got the 91 octane and the idle smoothed out a little but not all the way.

Yeah, that's what I'd say too - weird ****.

BTW: Put 91 or 87, it doesn't matter which, they won't have any effect either way on your civic as it sits now - stock. You won't get anything better out of putting 91 except the larger hole in your wallet.

As far as the idle goes, I'd tighten the throttle cable up a bit and see where you are from there. Idle in my opinion should be around 800 RPM.

normaly id agree with this , but im not trip'n pulled into gas station barely above e and put 91 in went and paid jump'd in started the car it choked for a sec like it was and before i pulled out the rpms went up a couple 100 and stoped droping so far when it surges. it didn't fix it but it seriously help'd makes me wonder if my timming is off a tooth and since it might be advanced 91 will ingnite easier than a lower level which would explain the idle getting a "little smoother" im going to check the timming this weekend and proly fork the cash 4 a o2 sensor and go from there, thanx for the help

this is not really on topic but... I just had some **** like this happen with my EM1. I got the a CEL and i went to auto zone and get them to pull the codes it was 1 cel and it was for the IVAC so i spent the 150 and got a new one. then like 2 wks later i got a CEL agian and the car was running like ****. Bad gas mileage, would not idle and i could baby it down to near nothing on the tach it would idle and like 200 RPM. so i got the CEL's and it was 6. One of the being the MAP. I Talked to the people at AZ and they said to check all the hose connections B4 i spend 70 on a MAP. I did but all was good. I put the MAP on and got them to reset the code and it is fine now. I guess i said all that to say that is why i thought it was your MAP but if you are getting codes for your fuel system it is probably just your O2. sensors are expensive and a bitch. Bump~

You know this is just a little shady but if you got a D you can just got to a junk yard and lift one. it is not like you are taking a whole engine or anything you can just put it in you pocket... and worst part it might not work but who cares it was "free" just go try agian
