Sounds more like he was bouncing off the rev limiter at an indicated 9200 rpm, which may have been 8600 or so. He is probably fine.

Just because you get a chipped ECU doesn't mean nothing if your motor isn't built for it... that's why in stock form, our redline is at 8400rpm... that is there for a reason... taking it further than that is just a gamble.... why mess up a perfectly good motor...

ok, let me tell you this: HE DID NOT INTEND TO HIT IT PASS 8400rpm...just that the pedal got stuck and wont let go of the gas therefore it hit the 9200revlimiter.

and yes, its 9200rpm coz its chipped (p28 OBDI).

He will be fine. Bouncing off the rev limiter is not what kills motors. Missing a shift and mechanically forcing the engine to turn at 10,000+ rpm's is what kills motors. But, fix that throttle before he kills himself!

Since when are stock ITR's made for 9k? Japan's ITR tach has the same redline we do. I think lowering the revlimit might be a smart thing to do. If your engine is not prepared to rev to 9200 RPM I don't see why you would want to set your revlimit that high.

well, yea, but the fuel cutoff for 98 spec itr(japan) is 9k rpm. many many video from japan show that. on top of that, itr can rev up to 9k just a chipped or aftermarket ECU. althought the power might drop(depend on ecu setting) a little bit, but it help keeping rpm when upshifting.

Well, I think the 9k fuel cut is because the tach is off.
