motor cuts out at high rpm
I have a 94 usdm gsr in a 93 hatch and i was doing a second gear pull and it just cut out around 7000rpm. By cutting out i mean it almost seems to stop getting gas or something for a little bit. It doesnt turn off or anything. When i felt it do that i let off the gas right away. This is already happened twice. What can it be?

if your using the stock P28 ECU, the rev limiter on that is 7200, that happend to me one time... my car broke down and i forgot that my chip had been reset and i had the stock rev limiter, and i hit 7200 and my engine just stopped.. like basically i hit the "rev limiter" that was programmed by the ECU

MY ecu is chipped and the redline is set to 8400. Is there anyway the chip in there maybe going bad? It has only done it twice too.

How can I figuire out if it is the ignitor or not?

the motor never turns off. It's almost as if your hitting a rev limiter. When ever I feel it cut out like that. I always let of the gas.

I'm having a similar issue, I'm running the p28, and around 6200 rpm the motor cuts like you described, however, I'm being told that with the boost I'm running, I could potentially blowing the spark out, I'm going to try a smaller gap, but I doubt that's the issue.

Re: motor cuts out at high rpm (Tealeg88)
The TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor. It is located on the firewall side of the throttle body. You need a digital multimeter to test the sensor. It sends a voltage reading from .5volts (closed throttle) all the way up to 4.5volts(wide open throttle). Pull the plug out so you can put the probes on the sensor. Next turn the key to the on spot ,but the engine off. You put the positive probe to the red/black wire and then ground the negative probe(good place is the negative battery post). Then after you have the wires on there have someone/yourself slowly move the throttle valve untill it is at wide open throttle. The numbers should have gone up very smoothly (all the way up to around 4.5 volts), there should not be any jumps or glitches while increasing. If there are glitches/doesnt increase smoothly then you have a bad TPS.
If and when you have to replace it you have to saw a slot in each of the screws that hold the TPS on there. Otherwise you will have to buy the whole throttle body to get the TPS. Once you have cut the slots in the screws you can take the TPS off ,and then all you have to do is get another one off of ebay for like 20-30$ and screw it back in. Do the voltage check once more before you put it in for good also. If the voltage reads out ok you should be fine.
Pretty sure thats everything you need to know to check/replace the TPS. Somebody correct me if i've left anything out please. I had to do this on my LS and after i got it done, it ran fine. Hope that helps you out man.

Re: motor cuts out at high rpm (redlshatch)
Thanks for the info REDLSHATCH, will test it this weekend.
One other thing I did notice with my car is that it doesn't get very good gas mileage. My spark plugs are only less than a year old.

No problem man! When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? If not that then pull out the plugs and see what kind of condition they are in.
