car has a misfire
okay so here is the deal. my car has a misfire. it has 4 new injectors, new distributor and it had the mpfi done but everything was wired properly. There is no CEL on the dash or on the ecu. I have a feeling that it's a lean misfire. I dont see any vacuum leaks because i checked ALL of the vacuum hoses. As far as the ignition timing goes the distributor is to one side. By that i mean, if you are standing on the pass side and looking at the motor, the dizzy is all the way to the right. i was told that most hondas have the dizzy in the middle. if i go all the way to the left the rpm drops and there is no throttle response. It idles around 1100 rpm. If i drive it runs fine but if i let off the throttle lets say in 4th gear, you can hear a popping noise come out of the exhaust. if your on the throttle, there is no popping noise. the misfire is being masked by something and i cant figure out what it is. its got brand new ngk plugs and they are burning white. I think its a oxygen sensor but im not sure.
Cliffs: car has misfire and mpfi was done.

could because your timing is not properly set. mine does it too but its not a big deal. i dont know what u mean by some hondas having the dizzy in the middle. or maybe i read wrong
. they have them on the side

sounds to me like your cam timing is off. check your timing belt alignment marks. I had a honda when i installed the timing belt off one tooth on the camshaft dizzy had to be pushed all the way to one side.

i was told that most hondas have the dizzy right in the middle for the ignition timing.

is there a way to adjust the cam timing w/o taking off the belt? i know how to align it properly on the head but what else do i have to make sure lines up? isnt there a mark on the timing cover to line it up with as well.

nah man. sorry, u have to take it off. but dont worry about that. it might not even be cm timing. i ihave a d16y8 that i bought from a junkyard with the correct timing becuse it still has the honda belt. it has never been taken apprt before. and it slightly does that. but ya. all honda motors that i have seen so far have the dizzyis on the side. i cant think of an engine that does not

u have to take the belt off the cam gears to adjust it but ur plugs being white indicates lean they should be brown ( for the dizzy i think he is talking about how it is turned for the ignition timing not where it is located on the head) i would check cam timing u shouldnt have to have ur dizzy all the way to one side to get it to run

oh ok. thanx for making it clear

most honda dizzies are installed in the middle of there attached point. If the dizzy has to be pushed all the way right or left most likely your timing marks are off. do some searching on this site there should be a picture of how the timing marks align. I believe 1.5 and 1.6 liter engines use different marks on the top back timing belt cover for alignment. could cause this problem. crankshaft sprocket has to align with oil pump marker, and cam sprocket has two lines on it's side, aligns with head, or 1.6 liter has a pointer i believe on the botton that aligns with pointer on back cover. Also make sure when you do this, engine is at top dead center, rotor on dizzy points to number one spark plug.

That would be backfire, not a misfire. Your timing is definitely off. As far as your idle, that is a different issue. Fix the timing first.

ignition timing was looked at with a timing light and i was told it was dead on zero. i guess i might as well do my timing belt and water pump since i have to take off the belt anyways. thanks for you help guys.

yeah i tried to adjust the idle on the tb but if i set it at 800 rpm, then the car will NOT go anywere at wide open throttle.
