is it worth doing a HONDATA tune on my set up on an ITR with intake, headers exhaust? maybe add some cam gears? they told me gains of 15whp maybe so is it worh the grand tab it costs?

Not a grand, but about half of that. Roughly $300 for the s200 system used and about $150 in dyno time tuning. I'd say its worth it.

To add onto the original poster's question or to rephrase it because I have the same question....

For people who have HONDATA and a stock engine with only I/H/E, what gains were achieved with HONDATA and tuning? What additional gains can be achieved with using adjustable cam gears?

no gains, waiste of money... dyno # don't mean ****.. unless adding 20-30-50 more hp, not worth the effort.. cause you won't have anything to show for it.

Doostur, if im correct its a already tuned map for the ITR. He would install the system and upload the map and send it back to you for 195

This is correct. And on our dyno the tuned map shows a 5% gain peak and solid increase in the mid-range from lower vtec point. I'll see if I can dig up the dyno plot.

That's an awesome deal.

And not to knock it at all but I would recommend dyno tuning as well. A base map will only cover so much and each build is differnt.

Ausmith, do you have a few ITR maps or only a base map? When I had my car tuned, we went through a few of the previous ITR tunes the guy had done and found the closest to my setup and used that as a base map for street tuning before we dyno tuned. Is that something you'd be willing to do?

you are wrong

there will be gains, if the gains are worth the price...well thats up to the O.P.

Indeed we do. Every car we tune becomes a possible base map for someone else.

Here's the dyno. The car was my '98 Type R with AEM CAI, Omni Test Pipe, and Buddy Club Pro-Spec Exhaust. The Blue Line is with stock USDM ITR ECU. Red Line is with Hondata. No Cam timing was changed. That was just ignition map, fuel map, and VTEC point.

Here are some examples of jdm itr motors with full tunes:

Stock usdm type-r motor with a stock header & very restrictive exhaust (look at all the midrange gains):

Hondata is honestly overkill for your application. Crome Pro would be a lot more affordable & work the same. Read over http://phearable.net/tech/efibeginnerguide.html for a better understanding.

S200 is a waste of money unless YOU want to do the tuning. Buy the S100 if you plan to have someone tune it.

The only problem we've found with CROME is the fact that you can't run it in closed loop. Gas mileage will suffer a little bit as a result.

Cam gears can certainly help. No, this base map is not included with Hondata - this is one that we have developed.

There are a whole bunch of different cam gears available. A good set should run your about $225.

You did forget to add the cost of the obd1 vtec socketed ecu of around 150-180 depending on where he gets it. The total would be $450+

Why even waste the $200 on the s100 unit when crome does the same for free ?

I understand you are a hondata dealer, but unless he is buying s300, or needs a specific feature hondata s100/s200 has, he would simply be wasting money.

For around $260-285 he could get a chipped obd1 ecu with a good basemap & a obd2 to obd1 jumper harness
