Default Will a throttle body spacer yield me any gains? (and some more random questions)

(No results on "throttle body" searches)

I was remembering when my brother was a teenager, and I was about 10, starting to be fascinated by cars he was talking about getting an AEM throttle body spacer on his 3.0CL saying it would give him a decent increase (5hp). I was wondering would this little thing do any for my d17a2 little engine being that I heard it doesn't respond well to bolt ons will it even give me 2 hp? 2 or more and im down.

Some more questions I have while I am at it..What makes our engine not responsive to bolt ons? Is it the size? something to do with it being sohc too?

Another question.. Why did everyone in my class laugh at me today in my communications class when I told this guy that his father's STI is a SOHC engine? He was like "DUDDEE YOU CAN EVEN SEE THE TWO DIFFERENT PARTS" I was like "DUDDE GO TO AN STI DEALERSHIP THEY ALL SAY 2.0L SOHC TURBOCHARGED AS THE ENGINE SPEC" (I was test driving them the other day)

I mean I thought about it and I really don't think an STI is sohc, but then again, the window sticker said so, and Volkswagon has the W8 Passat which is an unorthodox v-8 engine that is fast as *****, so maybe subaru has an unorthodox SOHC is what I am guessing but the dealership stickers on all sti's 03 to 07 said SOHC. in big black letters.

and another thing...they are really not all that fast, I mean imagine how slow it would be without the turbo. S2000 with few bolt ons smokes an sti, and s2k is n/a. Thats all I can ever say about stock turbo sports cars... imagine them without the turbo.. I mean Volkswagon has the W8 Passat which is an unorthodox v-8 engine that is fast as *****, so maybe subaru has an unorthodox SOHC is what I am guessing but the dealership stickers on all sti's 03 to 07 said SOHC. in big black letters.

And then I was thinking about another thing... What if I do all the bolt ons in the world that I can possibly do how much could I get spending all that money? Say I get AEM V2 intake (which I have on the way), A greddy evo2 exhaust with a custom straight pipe catback (i know peeps at midas), Then say I get HP Racing Performance Headers, AEM Pullies, Bigger fuel injectors, and some performace camshafts. How much will that do to my engine? Then after that what if I get a stage 2 clutch, and the b+g shortshifter? How much would that help in acceleration?

Just a few questions

Wow, you've def got some things to learn
1) no the TB spacer will do you know good, you may even lose power
2) our motors do not respond well to bolt ons because they are SOHC motors, this means you can not adjust valve overlap. this is why our motors suck N/A (naturally aspirated), they are also very small displacement motors (1.7) which means they do not have very much torque, and lastly our motors do not have that high of compression (only 9.9:1) and they ARE ONLY SUPPOSED TO REV TO 6800 IN STOCK FORM.
3) do not waste you money on bolt-ons, if you are serious about increasing power
do it the right way and turbo, supercharge, or swap the motor.
4) who gives a **** about the sti, VW, etc. this is a honda forum and if you want to know about those cars there are probably better places to ask than on HONDA-TECH.

hope this helps, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask

I know the 06+ sti's are 2.5L, I would guess the earlier ones were too. As far as an S2k with bolt ons beating an STI. You really can't get much more power from the s2k stock. It will come stock with about 205whp, if you do a single back exhaust with headers, ITB's, and AEM EMS you will see maybe 225-235whp. The car weighs about 2800lbs. The STI is about 3100lbs, I'm no expert on the STI, but I would say it's making at least 250whp, with WAY more torque than an s2k. It might be a good race, but I'd say the STI would pull it out every time (given the drivers are of the same skill level). Not to mention the STI would kill the s2k off the line. And as far as saying the STI would be nothing without a turbo, it's built from the factory as a turbo car, so it's not really a fair comparison. The turbo system on it is made to not have much lag and give great midrange torque. If you put a new turbo system on it I wouldn't be surprised if it could make as much as say 400whp, BUT I'M NO EXPERT ON STI'S AND I'VE NOT READ MUCH ON THEM, SO DON'T TAKE THAT 400WHP THING AS FACT.

Firstly, ley, the W8 isn't an unorthodox V8... it's a W, oddly enough...

TN90accord... get you laughing gear around this that we get from Litchfield Imports: http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/

http://www.type-25.com/

That's a JDM-only imported Type 25 Spec C, brought into the UK by Lithchfield Imports who started out years ago simply importing them.

Then they started fiddling with them, perfecting thier skills. They went from strength to strength and now you can buy a brand new, warrantied JDM T25 SC with full back up officially here in the UK... although they are VERY expensive... but, they aren't just a T25 SC with a few bolt ons, they're built from the ground up to be the most brutal factory Impreza available.

Check out the Engine, Chassis, Exterior, Prices and options lists etc...

you dont need AEM EMS to gain power. On s2ki.com, people have gained quite alot of HP with just colder plugs and a Greddy Emanage tune on an AP2. i believe it was about 20ishwhp and 30lbs of tq through-out the whole powerband (ill see if i can find the link) With a s2000, its all about topend. you just reel them in right after 40-60mph.
