So what does "B18C5" mean anyways?
i hope this isnt a dumb question, but i've often wondered what exactly each engine code means. is there a chart or something? as far as i know, the first letter is the block, the two digit number is the displacement (ie 1.8L for 18?) and after that i'm lost. or is the rest just random? like the C5 etc... its just something i feel like i should know about hondas know but i dont.
thankyou

B: 'it comes from a B-series engine'
18: 'it has a displacement of 1.8L'
C: 'more engine-specific info' I'm not sure if this is actually descriptive...
5: 'it's the Type R'
Those last two letters don't mean much, since the Civic Type R is B16B, etc...

yeah that's kinda what i was talking about but i was hoping the last two actually stood for something. btw, the B18C5 is just and example. i'm just wondering if there is a common system or something. thx for the reply though
B18C = Bseries DOHC VTEC
5 = location sold with 5 being north america ITR
1 = north america GSR
5 = location sold with 5 being north america ITR
1 = north america GSR
b - engine family
18 - displacement
c1 - revision of that engine (a, b, c1, c5, etc...)
but the zc motor doesn't seem to follow this, but its technically a d-series dohc
hope this helps some

Not correct entirely.
The a/b and c lines are not related.
