Default Help car keeps overheating

After yesterday my car keeps wanting to overheat when i drive it a while. When i notice the temp. gauge is moving towards hot, i let off the gas then it moves back to normal temp. Anyone know what the problem is, it's bugging the hell out of me. i just did a coolant flush. Im thinking head gasket blown? btw it's a 97 gs-r

Did you bleed all the air out of the system? Did you have overheat problems before the flush? Is the coolant level OK?

Could be hidden pockets of air working their way out. Could be a bad radiator or it could be a bad water pump (ie, the engine produces more heat when you get on it and the water pump isnt pumping enough water). Also, the water pump can leak...so check for that.

not likely....especially if they are OEMs. Now autozone specials might be a different story.

ok i checked my hoses when the car is warmed up only the top radiator hose going into the head is hot but the bottom going out to the radiator is cold. could it be the water pump? that's what im thinking. btw just replaced thermostat but it couldn't be that could it?

Autozone and other non-OEM thermostats are complete trash....atleast from my personal experience and just about every other thread about thermostats on honda-tech. Thus, if its not OEM, then possibly. Think about this though...if the bottom hose comes from the engine, its going to be hot, then the coolant runs through the radiator (ie, cooling off) and then the cool, coolant goes into the bottom hose....thus the bottom hose should be cooler then the top...maybe even ice cold. Ofcourse there could be an air bubble causing your gauge to read incorrectly, or a bad coolant temp sensor, or the lower hose is crushing, or the radiator cap is bad and not allowing the cooling system to pressurize.

I bought an OEM thermostat, installed it, and put some new coolant in. Then i bled the system and let it idle until warm the thing is my fans don't work (it's been that way but i've never experienced overheat before) now the car is warmed up and the temp guage is at normal temperature, less than 1/2, it's been on for like 20 minutes but im not everheating. i haven't drove it yet because i thought the upper hose and the bottom hose should be hot?
