Taken from the article......

"First and foremost, premium gas really is a better fuel in terms of the power it provides in the right engine."

That's the key sentence in the entire article. Interesting stuff. Thanx for sharing.!

I thought the main point of the article was,

"The regular fuel will burn properly and the premium fuel will burn properly and therefore there is no reason you should pay the extra money" (R18)

... unless the engine's compression ratio was designed for the higher octane. (K20)

I think the point this article makes to R18 owners is that putting in premium vs. regular is not doing you any more justice, and to just use regular as your car doesn't require any higher.

Si owners know that they need premium and this article tells them nothing.

I understood this just fine, thank you for sharing the article

Isn't the ECU adaptive enough on the R18 to at least advance timing a bit and give you a bit more power?

If the ecu detects knock with 87 and retards timing then you shoudl run a higher octane. Without driving with a HDS hooked up under load you will never know.

Honda tells you what gas to use with the car, listen to them.

"High-performance engines, such as those in some sports cars or older, heavier automobiles, often boast much higher compression ratios."

"... unless the engine's compression ratio was designed for the higher octane. (K20)"

Not that the R18 will ever be mistaken for the K20 but 10.5:1 isn't too far off from 11:1. Now, if we were talking about the run-of-the-mill compression ratios...this is very true. Octane is always a relative term to the person putting it in the tank but if we are simply stating that Premium is better for higher compression engines...then the R18 should be able to see some sort of benefit albeit minor...so we are still at the point...if you want to pay for it...use it...if not don't (R18 that is).
