ITA CRX safety tech question concerning fuel filler neck lines
I've been informed that if the fuel filler neck lines are exposed inside the car that they might not pass an SCCA safety inspection. Didn't know if this is true. If so, I was curious to see pictures of the remedy.

Never heard of that. You should be fine in ITA. Some classes require "extra" stuff when it comes to the filler neck in a CRX, but not in ITA.
Hmmm....I had a couple people on another forum say they needed to cover it. Must be region dependant. One way to find out.

It's in the GCR that any open fuel line or filler neck must be covered. The issue is whether or not it's caught at the annual tech inspection...
9.1.3. Improved Touring Category Specifications
e. Front passenger seat, rear seat back, rear seat bottom cushion(s), sun visors, seat belts and their attaching hardware and bracketry may be removed. In any automobile where allowed removal of rear seats, upholstery, etc., creates an opening between the driver/passenger compartment and an exposed gas tank, fuel cell, or part thereof, a metal bulkhead which completely fills such opening shall be installed (See GCR 9.3.26.1.)
Basically, as soon as you pull out the interior panels you have exposed part of the fuel system and will need to cover it with sheet metal.

Here in So Cal they did not like the exposed filler neck in my ITA CRX. So I took a piece of flexible alum. dryer vent, cut it in half, and put it over the filler neck. Yes I know it sounds like a joke... but the inspectors liked it and the car has now passed two annual techs with it! Plus it only took about 5 minutes to do
We painted ours the same color as the interior and the issue never came up. Worked for NASA, SCCA SF region, Oregon region and ICSCC.

Exactly!
I can see this being an issue in a car with a filler neck made of rubber, but the CRX has a metal fuel rail. So, it's kinda pointless to "cover" it!

This is a case where the tech inspector is a moron and just follow everything black and white. Sort of remind me of Airport security check point.

Isn't the stock fuel filler a tube in a tube from the factory?

Not in the 88-91 CRX. It is a metal tube that goes from the opening to the gasket of the fuel tank. Only way it would fail is in a crash and no "extra" dryer tubing is gonna help there.

I know It has nothing to do with ITA...
However, in the So Cal Honda Cup rules where we are encouraging the fitting of Fuel Cels over the next couple of seasons, We require the Fuel Inlet Pipe to be enclosed if it enters the inside of the Drivers compartment and then enters the Tank. Unfortunately this only applies to the '88-'91 CRX All the Civic's, Integra's, S2000'S Etc. Appear to have the required panel OEM.
Arizona Region have now adopted Honda Cup Rules...Perhaps it's spreading?
