I'm working on pulling my D15B7 since I believe that it has a broken piston ring landing. Whatever the case may be it is burning oil and I'd like to figure out why and fix it. My setup will be as follows when I get it put back together:

D15B7 SOHC Engine
Greddy E-Manage System w/ Injector and Ignition harness'
Greddy 15G Turbo Kit
Greddy Front Mount Intercooler w/ blow-off valve
Kteller 2.5" Down-Pipe
Spun Housing 2.5" High Flow Cat
Magnaflow 22" Resonator 2.5" in/out
Greddy Evo2 Replica 2.5" inlet muffler
DeatschWerks 500cc injectors
Catch-can "slash-cut exhaust" crankcase ventilation setup

I do have some questions that I would like to ask to make sure I understand what I have read properly:

1) Is it true that I can use the D16Y7 gasket set for my engine? It is a multi-layer steel gasket as opposed to the graphite gasket that the D15B7 uses. When I did a search I saw a few posts that seemed to indicate I can use the D16Y7 gasket. If that is the case, can I use the entire D16Y7 gasket set or just the head gasket? Would it really give me any benefit over the graphite gasket in terms of reliability at my boost level?

2) Will new OEM head studs be okay running 8-12 PSI from a Greddy 15G kit? ARP does not make a proper head stud set for my engine so I would be replacing them with OEM units. I read reports of heads lifting with OEM parts but I am not sure at what point this happens.

3) I am doing at least Vitara pistons, and perhaps Eagle rods if I can get a good price on them. If I did the pistons and rods is anything else internally holding me back from making 175 - 200 WHP with my setup? I could not find a difinitive answer about the valve springs... would I need to upgrade those if I do not increase my rev limit?

If I forgot to mention anything or you have any tips I would love to hear it. Before it is suggested that I drop the D15B7, I have thought about it but I can build up this motor cheaper than I can get a D16Y8 swap and I will know for sure that the internals are solid since I have been through it myself.

 

after market rods won't fit in your d15... they don't make any, i think this one company makes them.. don't remember who.. they run 700$... unless you own a JDM d15b vtec... then it's a another story....


people always tell me that sohc vtec sucks.... so i built one...

I found the one set of rods that does fit and bought them It was quite a task to track them down... but I got them barely used for 1/2 the cost of a new set. They are Crower rods, FYI. I made a mistake above when I said Eagles!
