Help me buy a hatch... 3 to choose from
I currently have my eye on three hatchbacks. All which have there ups and downs. Here are the specs, let me know which one you guys think is the best deal.
#1
Year:1998
Model: Dx
Mileage: 80k
Title: Salvage due to theft (but already got it inspected and approved)
Car is very clean, it got stolen but only the interrior was taken, everything was replaced. Car has been professionally painted champ white (engine bay, door jams and truck jams), has type r lips all the way around and type r wing, jdm fenders with side markers, jdm 99 taillights, sir fogs, si cluster, green del sol seats, and some green rims (forget brand). Talked to the guy and he said i could have it for 4300-4500.
#2
Year: 1997
Model: dx
Mileage: 132k
Title: Clean
Car is pretty clean, is completely stock, one of the taillights is cracked. Owner says it needs new axels and tires soon, driverside window doesnt roll up and motor burns some oil. He said i could buy it for 2500
#3
Year: 1998
Model: dx
Mileage: 106k
Title: clean
Interrior is clean, car had a dent in the roof, so the owner had it bondo's then rattle can'd the whole thing blue, says its looks ok not spectatular but better then some. Other then that car is stock. He also said the bondo on the roof is starting to crack. He is asking 3000 for it but said is very adjustable on the price.
Im going to use the hatch for an h22 swap, kinda wanted a ctr clone but with an h22 heart. I originally was going to buy the one for 2500 but im worried about the drive home (all the cars are located 3 hours away from me). Im really interested in the champ white one but have never boughten a salvage title and am worried about it. Any help is appreciated.

I would choose #2. If you are going for a H22a swap you are going to have to replace the axels anyway. And you dont have someone else's project or a roof to fix.

You're swapping an H22 in there...
Should obviously be #2.
132k isn't much for a honda, the engine burning oil isn't going to matter since it's coming out, and it's not like you can keep those axles, you'll need other axles for your H22..and tires...that's just maintenance man..
#2 for sure.

#1 has more mods than the other 2 and to do those mods woul;d cost more than the 2g difference in price.(if you don't like the color of the rims you can always have them painted or sell them and buy a new set)
#2 sounds like it could be a good car since you plan to swap the motor anyways, but is entirely stock.
#3 sounds like it needs a lot of body work and paint(which if you don't know how to do it yourself can get very pricey very fast)
I personally like the 99-00 hatches better because of the front end. However, given te 3 to choose from, I think #1 would be by far the best bet since it only has a salvage title due to theft.

If you like the way car #1 was put together, buy it. You said you wanted a CTR clone, it sounds like it is. It would cost you a lot more to make your own than to buy that one and do all the performance mods youself.
In the end, don't let H-T decide for you, buy the one you like best but to me, the first one sounds like the way you want to go for your plans.

dont buy somones project, you never know what the hell they did with it or the history of mods. if there are problems, fixing them will be alot more difficult not knowing the history of the car

I don't know about you but I don't consider a lip and some wheels a project worthy of worrying about headaches with.
Now if it was my car or some of the other modded cars on here, sure but that one has a few cosmetic mods that will save old boy in the long run by not having to buy them himself but like I said, he needs to decide.
Jesus, what the hell would some of these people do if there was no internet because it seems no one can form an opinion on their own anymore lol.

I would go with the white one, altho it may be salvaged, it's not as hard as you think it is to register one. As long as the vehicle passes safety n emissons you should be all set, but before you buy it, ask the owner how he regestered n passed the inspection. Before you do anything call up DMV n ask them where do you inspect a salvaged vehicle, and how to regester it. good luck
#2 FTW, For what you want to do its you best start. I virgin car is hard to come by in the honda world, buy it stock and mod it to make it your own.
#1 is my pick.
you can push all the parts that you want to take off to put your own touch on it. you can also sell the motor and everything you dont want or need. you should break close to even after the h22 swap.

Some of you guys take this "built not bought" thing WAY to far. A freakin lip and wheels is NOT built, it's not even started.

#2 is an excellent deal. You'll be replacing the engine and the axles, and tires are both a wear item and a performance item so replacing those is no big deal (you'll probably be installing larger wheels anyway). The window likely has a problem with the regulator or track. Shouldn't be a difficult fix.
A salvage titled car isn't the best idea, especially for $4500. If you decide on that one, check with your insurance first to make sure they'll allow you to carry the policy you want on a salvage titled vehicle.
