usually if it sounds like ****, or has no sound its blown or going bad. unless its a piece of **** mb quart with a plastic basket then you have to very lightly and evenly tighten it, and not tighten the screws more than .00000001 inch/lbs or the basket will warp and distort the cone and make it sound blown. also you can check the voice coil's dc resistance with a meter to make sure it isnt open or gone up in resistance.

really, cuz i put some dp speakers in kind of ghetto and the metal backing is visibly warped. (they are just temporary) and the brand is a cheap one called DUAL. i guess i need to make a custom solid backing :/
