Default Gearing Question (ATS + 4.7 Final Gear too close for 230-270whp setup) ???

sorry if it seems look like out of topic (gearing question)

but it was also about all motor car

i think my b18c5 that was 260 CHP (on my signature https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1654882 ) was not making nice ET with ATS (3,4,5) on 4.7 FG.... it still 13.2sec when it still 260 chp (stock shortblock), next im targeting arround 280-290chp with 2.0L motor

i think the powerband was not optimumly usefull with this gearing, it sound just like f1 motor... very (or maybe too) close ratio, shifting and shifting gear but the car seem like still there...

how about you guys oppinion??

next im gonna try some other gearing setup,
1. still using ATS, but using 4.4 FG
2. or still using 4.7FG but using stock ITR gearing??

what do you suggested?

(sorry if my gramar more even worse lately :D )

So is traction your problem, what tires do you run at the drag strip? What are you 60'?

What RPM are you taking it up to? or are you still taking it to the same RPM then before you did the gear swap.

My best friend hit a 13.01 @108 mph on a stock block gsr ( head was fully built) we were taking it up to 9600 rpms.

With this king of power and this final drive and gear combo i dont think that is a great setup..I think that a stock 4.4 itr tranny will make your car quicker on the drag strip

neo, the traction is good ennuf for our track condition, im puttin 2.0 60ft with 23.5x9x15 mh slicks... but the main problem is the gearing, even on the 3 to 4 to 5 shifting it still like too close ratio

damn... there so many input 4 me..
but the only choice that i've is :
1. still using ATS, but using 4.4 FG
2. or still using 4.7FG but using stock ITR gearing?
what do you think guys?? between those 2 option

AllMTRWH0R3, i never try other gearing (i always using 4.7 with 3,4,5 ats - too close i think),
the next gearing option was for the next setup...

how much does the car weigh with driver? how much did it put down to the wheel on a dynojet? your 4.7 final should be just fine, your 60' is horrible, 2.0 60' is not that great, if you're putting down 230whp on a dynojet, you should already cutting 1.6xx 60' and your et should be in the low 12s high 11s with typical eg hatch that weigh in close to 2100lbs

its also about 2100lbs including driver (970kg)

im saying 2.0 60ft was good ennuf in indonesia for FWD,
1st because we dont have burnout box
2nd because we race @ highway / common asphalt track, no special drag racing track, so we know the asphalt quality was poor.. very smooth slippery ashpalt
i dont know about my whp on dynojet.. but it was 230whp on dastek, i know dastek was inflated number.. so maybe it was arround 190-200whp on dynojet

things that i confused that this car was a lot more powerfull than my Dseries.. (910kg include driver)
my Dseries was only 230CHP and this ITR was 260CHP - dastek.. so there ws 30hp margin

but my d series is run 12.9-13.0, and this EG-ITR was only running 13.2.... (970kg include driver)
so i assumed this EG-ITR was must be because wrong gearing setup...

crx=si , what kinda gearing combo would you suggested me?

your 4.7 final drive is just fine, I'm assuming this is a JDM type R tranny with ATS gears, although I'd step down to 22" slicks if you think your whp is 190 - 200 on a dynojet.......your 1/4 mile time is about right for a car 2100lbs @ 200whp with 2.0 60', typically speaking, for every tenth you shave from your 60' will result about 2 tenths off in the 1/4......so at 13.2 with 2.0 60", most of the cars from my shop with 200whp usually cut high 1.7 60', and in your case, which translate to about 12.5 - 12.7 in the 1/4, which honestly is very good for a 2100lbs car,......so if anything, I'd work on that 60' before I change anything else on the car

Match your gearing with torque, starting with a fixed set of desired tires(same ones you use in every race with a fixed pressure) with 345 close ratio gears and a 4.4, and if your tires are not spinning, go higher up to 5.0...and yea you will end in 5th gear at the 1/4 mile mark at 9000rpm.If you get too much wheelspin, lower your FD up to 4.0, that will get you finishing in 4th gear at ard 8500rpm.Basically, move your FD values up or down until you eliminate wheelspin..you can also fine tune the wheel spin by playing ard with tire pressure. If your engine is not making enough power (<250whp) go with the 5th gear ending setup.Otherwise(250-300 whp range) go with a 4th gear ending.Matching RPM drop in the powerband is another story.Just a rough guide.Gd luck.

Tip: notice Ericks racing first 2.0 lit engine uses a very high FD and ends in 5th gear. Now he is ending in 4th gear with a lower FD, same 1-5 close gears.

Skunk2 Drag K cars are ending in 4th gear too and their motors are rated 350hp.

yep, i know the main problem was the first 50 meter, because it was really spinning everywhere.. but nothing i could do more about it. even i've done a lot of suspension and LSD setup and test, this is the best 60 that i got, because the problem is "NO Burnout box, and damned Asphalt condition"
(i've run 20kg spring @ rear, and 12kg springs @ front, using cusco zero 1 suspension, ATS LSD, and Z10 Traction bar),
there still no burnout box and slippery asphalt in the track, what else i could do?
and the 2.0 60ft i think was the best ever in indonesia (in those track condition that i've mentioned before).

now im finished on 5th gear @ 8500rpm, and the shiftpoint was arround 9300rpm.

kstmotorworks, ok so the ATS gear ratio was just fine rigth?? so u suggested me to use 4.4FD first before go back with stock 98 ITR tranny setup (4.7 + stock ITR gearing)?

What pressure are you running in those slicks? What RPM are you launching? What is your MPH?

i know from my own experience, that the 4.7 was to much with my 224whp 2.0lt
i drive alot during the summer on the road and on the highway its awful, but for the track i didnt get to test with different tires, psi, lauching.etc 4.4 is what i have now and its great for street and the track.

wow.... it gonna spin very hard dude...!!
on 6500.. i've try and it spinnin everywhere...

dont you think track condition in indonesia was the same as in other country...
no burnout box, and we use common highway ashpalt

so by considering track condition, targeting 60ft bellow 2.0sec was not an option to me sadly...
