Default track warnings and caution questions...

my friend just brought this up with me and i couldnt give him an answer so I thought i might ask....

if your on a race track with your car, and lets say some stuntaz or assclown who cant drive causes an accident and nails your car...

are you up the creek? or will you be able to sue him? etc... does anyone know the general policy rule?

I realize if you total your own car, your own insurance wont cover it since it was on the race track. but what if someone else did?

Not necessarily true. Many insurance policies cover HPDE (high performance driver education) events but not time trials or races. (Wording often excludes "competition or timed events".)

Auto-cross could be considered a timed, competitive event.

I was referring to drivers schools held on racetracks, such as ITR Expo. Most policies have been covering damage incurred in such events. But (as reported in another thread here) some companies are clamping down and changing their wording to exclude those, too.

Each HPDE or track day event organizer should have a policy in place to deal with these kinds of situations. If you are ever in an event where you fear for your safety due to the inappropriate actions of another participant - you should get off the track immediately and speak to the track marshall about it - more than likely that person will be spoken to or asked to leave.

If you race, all bets are off. No insurance whatsoever. If there is car to car contact in an driver's school/training, it's supposed to be covered, but you could have serious problems getting them to cut you (or any injured parties) a check.

If it's a single car accident at a driving school, it is usually covered, unless you have Allstate, or any other company that is closing the loophole on driving schools at tracks.

Bottom line? Keep your head screwed on straight, and buy safety gear before ANY performance upgrades. Replacing cars is easy. Replacing people is not.

That's called "fraud" and it's against the law. What happens to you if you get caught? Don't even ask.

In a general sense, all TIMED event are not covered ( included autoX ).
You will get cover in driving school (as for now except AllState )
And I believe most track event do not medical coverage in case of accident.

Anytime when you feel unsafe ...... pull into the pit as soon as you can

Hmmmm...I have Allstate insurance, so this worries me. I actually talked to an Allstate adjuster in the last two months about open track/driving schools and she told me that I would be covered. Can anyway state with absolute certainty that Allstate will not cover these things?

Fraud is just like stealing someone else's car because now the insurance company has more reason to raise premiums. Part of the Honda theft epidemic is fraudulent claims used to pay for performance parts. I hope you are not one of those people because if so you are no better than a thief.

Yeah, can someone confirm the Allstate policy on HPDEs? I suppose I can call my agent but if you guys have more info (rather than "hearing" about someone who was denied coverage) I would really appreciate it!

I actually get great rates through Allstate but may need to change if this is true!!

You guys should pull out a copy of your policy and read the fine print for yourself.

I will eventually have to do that but wanted to see if someone here already did it! Work smarter, not harder
