Oil squirting through top of valve cover
I have a high compression b20 vtec and oil is squiring through the the top of the valve cover were its bolted down. Will adding a oil catch can fix this issue? I plan to add the prelude oil joint to one of the plug bolts on the back of the block and run it to the catch can.
is your pcv valve ok? If it is then you probably need to vent the VC and run a catch can. Also do a compression test to make sure youre not getting excessive blowby
I would definetly go with the compression test. Whats the compression with your pistons? Do you have a block guard or sleeves? I vote that you cracked your sleeves.
I doubt it...Cracked sleeves would be WAY obvious..You know like coolant in the oil and oil in the coolant.Or it would just not run at all. Its probably more like shot rings causing excessive crankcase pressure.Or he just needs a new VC gasket
I know its not a problem with the sleeves. From the first time I turned over the motor I noticed tiny specs of oil on top of the valve cover. I also did a compression test the first day that I got it started and the readings were within at least 10 PSI. I followed the ls/b20 vtec guide from this site for the break in.
Definitely get that catch can soon. That motor will make a good amount of crankcase pressure and the valve cover fitting is not enough. Changing the fitting over to an h22a one works great, but its a pain to do in the car. They use a 14mm allen head and there is red loctite all over the threads from the factory. They strip easily, and a big breaker bar is what works. What I did was got a big 9/16 allen wrench from napa. Then cut it in a few pieces for different lengths, the slightly larger size requires you to tap it in with a hammer, but its solid and will prevent stripping.

Actually B20 crack between the sleeves so there is no oil and coolant mixing. It really isnt as obvious as you would think.
