Default h22 head

i was wondering if are all the h22 heads interchangeable with all the h22 blocks. such as the h22a head on a h22a4 block. if so which i think they are wich would be the same combination cause i do know that some blocks are open deck and some are closed deck. should this matter?

what are the best cams valve train for the head without any port and polish. im thinking skunk 2

i believe there is a slight difference between the 92-96 vs 97-01. i was reading a description from a guy selling a h22a4 head on ebay and he was gonna build it up to fit his h22a block and noticed that they were quite different. i can't say 100% about this but it sounds true. as far as cams, skunk2 seems to be the more popular and affordable for most. but don't leave out crower and of course the jun. but what are your goals. that will help determine what you get.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 2point6 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hold on... The 98 and up head is different. Especially with the LMA's. The casting is deeper so the Correct LMA's MUST BE USED. The head is slightly smaller as well and the intake manifold studs are just slightly different. If you use the 98 head with an older manifold, you will have to enlarge the bolt holes slightly. I have seen manifolds crack when they are tightened up without enlarging the holes. Other than that, the ports are slightly better having a flatter short turn radius, which promotes slighty better flow.</TD></TR></TABLE>

this is from 2point6. a trusted word of mouth around here. with money and time anything will work. but a direct swap, i doubt. the a4's are open deck and the a and a1's are closed. but i don't think its just the deck height that constitutes this.
