air? or something else
hey everyone, i got 96 accord lx, no ABS. when i push the brake pedal suddenly, the brakes seems to work fine. But when I gradually push it, it sinks all the way down to the floor. This only happens about 50% of the time but got worse over these past few weeks. I bled all 4 wheels last night and it worked perfectly fine but today, it happened again but less. Im just trying to find out if its the master cylinder before I spend a fortune to buy one. I checked and there is no leaks on the master cylinder. Im thinking that if there is air in the line somehow, the pedal should always sink to the floor right? Can someone help me out?

Besides, you've already bled the brakes again.
Yours is classic case for a bad master cylinder. The piston seals allow brake fluid to leak back into the reservoir, that's why it doesn't leak OUT.

thanks JimBlake, I really appreciate the help. Do you think I should spend the $$ for a nicer one (Im not sure if that makes sense). I see one on kragen for about 60-70 bucks and another one (different brand) for hundred something... should I spend for a nicer one?
I don't know. I got an OEM one (from A&H) when it hapened to my Integra. I'm not really sure which other brands are good vs. not. Someone around here is bound to know.
Still, its your brakes. What's it worth to make sure they don't fail??
ps... I bet some on-line dealers have the genuine part for not much more than $100??
