Default I'm giving in and buying a suction cup GPS. But, which one?

Well, I'm finally giving in and settling for portable GPS rather than an in-dash. There's too much I want to buy for my car so I'm going to have to be baller on a budget . I'm trying to spend around $200-350. I realize they won't be the best GPS's out there, but I'd still like to get a decent one. My parents have a Sony one, and it looks ok to me, but I haven't used it daily so I wouldn't know.

And also, how has mounting them been? One of my problems with having a portable is the thing stuck right in the middle of the windshield. Have any of you found a better place to put it in the civics?

Edit: Oh by the way, I need updating maps too because Las Vegas is developing fast. Or do I have to purchase map updates separately?

ive seen some that are mounted on the dash.

the fact that a cord leading to the cig lighter bugs me though.

TomTom GO! I have the 910 in one of my other cars, and I love it. The 910 is a bit more than you want to spend, but you don't really need the extra features.

Check out the TomTom line-up of products though.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 360 and like it a lot, but it is way too much $$ for what you get, I would get a TomTom One.

Hide it in the center console? Can you show a picture?

I bought a TomTom One last night after asking 4 employees if I could return it for a full refund if I tried it and didn't like it. They all assured me that I could. Immediately after I bought it, I read the back of the receipt which said "Opened items blah blah blah: including GPS will require a 15% restocking fee." I figured I'd open it and reseal it at work and return it but there are parts inside that cannot be opened unless I plan on keeping it.

The more I look at navi's, the more I just want to just spend the extra and get an in-dash. I've been searching for a Phone/GPS/PDA for the past few days with no luck at all. I figured if I'm going to buy a portable one, might as well buy one that will do something else for me. They are readily availible in Europe/Asia, but it seems that it's almost non existant here.

I might end up just spending the extra on an in-dash. From what I've seen from posts and pictures so far, the 8th gens have a more difficult dash to work with. I don't have any experience with car hardware though and I certainly don't trust retail employees with my car either.

I've been thinking about a GPS solution for my civic, but I dont really like the idea of something hanging off my windshield all the time and risk getting it stolen and what not, what I plan on doing is getting a bluetooth GPS addon to my PDA and mounting it in the civic somewhere

this is shady, but it works, buy it from somewhere else that doesnt care if the package is open, then take the unopend one back and return it, then return the opened one to the place that doesnt care

its really not that bad, plus most of them are quick disconnect where the gps unit comes off the cradle real easy, and the cable stays plugged into the cradle. This way you can just hide the unit and the hardware is still on the windshild, then no one will steal it

Yes...

And that's actually a good price for a full dash kit on the 06-07 civics. They can go for as high as $150 at some audio stores.

I have a 26ft Osprey in Santa Cruz Harbor. In case my Furuno chart plotter ever bails, I keep the Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx as a backup. Garmin makes a great unit (at least for marine). This Garmin handheld brought home when I was 48 miles offshore hunting tuna, and my Furuno blew a fuse. I had every fuse BUT the one it needed. lol

I am not sure about their street nav stuff, but I assume it is of the same high quality as the marine stuff.

Open this helps
