Default MADE my own CATCH can..

i made my own catch can using a pipe.. i've got pics of it, but still tryin to figure out how to host them.. anyways, i hooked it up between the manifold and PVC valve and what do ya know, in about 250 miles of driving there's a noticable amount of oil deposits at the bottom of the catch can that i built.. That's oil deposits that would have been sucked into the manifold and evenutally gotten burned in the cylnders, coked on the inside walls of the runners and plenum, or become permenantly deposited in my cylndar walls and spark plugs..

btw, i cleaned my manifold inside and out when i had the engine out of the car and DAYEM, the insides were coked with oil beyond my belief, considering its only has been about 38,ooo miles old..

i'lll get the pics up as soon as i can...oh yeah, the whole project costed me next to nothing...

I've been seeing alot of home made catchcans lately. One of the guys in my club made a nice one out of an alluminum hiking bottle. Put baffles in it and everything. Very nice, and dirt cheap.

ive seen someone use 2 hoses, a corona bottle, and zip ties. this was temporary just to see how much oil was actually lost when in boost though... can you say ghetto?

There's a good article somewhere on autospeed.com about making a catch-can...but, they stuffed it full of stainless steel wool...isn't it possible that tiny bits could get sucked into the engine?

I still don't understand the whole catch can idea(besides the plain fact that it catches oil.) But FROM where do you hook it up. On my H22A, there are 2 places that I can't figure out where it would be hooked off of.

1. The crankcase breather valve that used to hook up to the stock intake pipe via a hose OR

2. The PCV valve outlet in the valve cover that runs into the manifold(I think that this is the correct location). Okay- so my ? is- with a turbo, do you use the stock PCV valve and hook it into the Intake manifold, or not(I don't think it was hooked up on mine when I got my car back from the shop because I found it in a box of parts they gave back to me following the install)

So to be honest I don't remember what they put in place of the PCV valve outlet...

I don't want to get my manifold or cylinders full of oil, but I am clueless on....

Where to get one that is easy to install for my H22a, and how to install it- ANY help/links would be great...

it hooks up to where the valve cover where the tube used to go to the intake

this is where on na applications the intake helps to suck oil vapors out, on FI applications, this oil likes to go flying out and it getting sucked back into the engine via intake isnt good. SO, people use a breather or a catch can. Of course you can understand why the catch can may be better if you spit up a lot of oil... I run a breather on my JRSC'd LS and one day i found a lil oil on my strut bar Looks like it was spitting up a lil bit there.

Actually those are two different articles. The second one is free. The scouring pad as a baffle idea is a good one.
