okay this is weird? timing on B16A

Default okay this is weird? timing on B16A

take a look at those pics and let me know if thats normal the marks on the sides line up but the UP arrow on the intake cam gear is no really at the top straight up?



and how does this B16a Block look?



that motor^^ opened it up the day i got it from HMO

are they off either? they both line up on the sides ant see on the pic because it wont load all the way! but yeah the top aroows

Does it look fine or not?

the cam on the left is DUH the exhaust and the one on the right is INTake.

but if i try too put the intake cam with the arrow pointing up then the lines on the sides wont match up? someone help me please. the lines on the sides that line up like this - - they wont match up if i move it? right now they match up?

yes i know LOL....i tried and it seems a little better know! it seems as if they both are at a slight angle towards the exhzaust manifold. now.

intake cam 1 tooth off , check your tensioner has the head been butchered , i mean shaved?get a straight edge and line up all 4 marks across the cam gears with the top surface of the head

when you put the tb on you should use a round phillips screwdriver or a punch to hold the cams in place at tdc, there are holes in the cam caps and in the cams that will line up at tdc for #1 cylinder. This helps to hold the cams in place because the valve springs will want to push the cams off tdc.

theres no holes on the b16 cam caps i think thats just LS

what doyou mean notches? and yeah if you mean the lines that line up side ways like this - - they are.

The engine leans forward so, it's normal for the pointers to be a bit "forward" toward the exhaust manifold when it's correctly lined up.

thats funny, I distinctly remember using them when repairing a poorly put together LS/VTEC motor which was made of a 99 B16 Si head and a 93 LS B18A block.

ya know what it was I used a different tool on that job, it looked like a wedge shape and it went between the cam gears to hold them in place
