aluminum rod brands
ive been looking around at different aluminum rod brands for my race car. I know people say they stretch but it seems that the alloys have been getting stronger. Ill only drive it on the weekends.
anyone heard of power being made on rods made by RR machine aluminum rods?
I know shep uses groden aluminum rods.

I'm not a big fan of aluminum rods. All of them elongate at rpm/temp so you need to allow about .010" extra piston to head and piston to valve. You also have an increase in oil clearance when they warm up.They will last quite a while if you keep the oil temp down.High oil temps make the rods brittle and shorten their life dramatically.
Bill Miller (BME) makes custom rods that are good quality. Childs & Albert used to but I don't believe they do anymore.
I think steel or Ti are a better choice unless it's using nitro.Pro Mods used to use them but have mostly switched to Ti.Top fuel and funny car are probably the biggest users now.

none of the manufacturers even mention stretch and such, groden wont even speak of such a thing. Over a certain period i think they will stretch, But they shouldnt stretch from cold to warm temps during operation .010.
Groden claims that his really wont stretch, lol, i know he uses some crazy extruded **** but i just dont know. I know people in my "area" they are running a set.

Notice on the description for the small block chevy rods "actual length of rods are .010" shorter than length listed".A 6" rod is actually 5.990" long.I have built several engines with aluminum rods (no hondas). The eagle titanium weigh less and are less than twice as much as the aluminum rods. After a season with the aluminum rods you through them away. You could get several seasons out of the ti rods and sell them for half of what you paid for them.Manley lists their aluminum rod at 450 grams and the ti are 335 grams. The aluminum rods are very large and will probably take some block and girdle clearancing.
Just my opinion for what its worth.

I agree with NJIN BUILDER, aluminum rods are not worth the hassle. They do not belong in a street car either. I have built several motors (around 30) with aluminum rods (never a Honda though) and they just move your powerband up a couple hundred rpm. I tell my customers to replace them after 60 passes because they do stretch and fatigue. If your dead set on aluminum rods though I use GRP.

We were thinking about running the Aluminum rods in our race cars, but the maintenenace required with the Alum rods didnt outweigh the advantages. We decided on using steel rods, Carrillo for our turbo applications.
I'm assuming you are doing a turbo setup? I'd just go with a good steel rod rather than aluminum, less maintenance. Carrillo Pro-H rods for big power.

yeah ill prolly just get manley rods, groden would be the only alum rod i go with, maybe on some other build, but not right now.
