how much do the coilovers cost. is this much better than just getting the $150 springs?

They're about $1200 bucks and yes they are much better than springs alone as it is basically a full suspension setup. They offer more control over ride comfort and ride height.

camber is the least of your worries.

rear.
cambers in with major toe in. like this / \

i have the SS all the way down. camber wont wear your tires out as much as most people think.
its that dam TOE.

either do it yourself, as theres a camber bolt on the lower control arm for TOE, or get an alignment. if you're gonna pay for an alignment might as well get the adjustable upper control arms too. SPC/Comptech make/sell them, you can grab em in the 200-250 dollar range for the set.

that's the rear btw.

for front, it was minor change if at all. i needed no camber or toe adjustment. atm wear on the front tires are as that of stock. there is however camber bolts for the front, you can grab em for crazy cheap. some places even just give them to you with the rear kit. if you want them jus cuz.

one of these days i will get a professional alignment. as of now i stringed the car, and did the adjustments all myself.

if u do grab the SS. enjoy. i have almost 20K miles on em now. wish i got the flexes.....if you're going coilover might as well go FLEX....but thats jus my opinion. i like it to be a tad more aggressive. also height/preload adjust seperately and they have upper pillow *****.

With it dropped that low, is the ride quality still decent or is it a rough ride? With the SS's all the way down, does it tuck the tire a little or just come to the top of the tire?

Thanks for any info.

heres what it looks like all the way down. you can take out one of the locknuts on em too to go lower. but i didnt. this is all the way down with "default" setup

and yes its a pretty harsh ride. i wish i got the flex's still. which are probably harsher. when raised up about an inch. it can be adjusted to a really comfortable but responsive setup. there's a RR si in the pix thread, it seems real low compared to mine. i think he has SS or FLEX. its like page 48 or 49. u can check it out. it appears lower than mine.

First, let me say, your Si looks sick at that height.

That is probably the same height I would like for my Si to be, but I am trying to keep the ride as close to stock feel as possible so if the ride is pretty harsh at that level, I might have to raise it up some.

I saw the Si you speak of and the drop does look pretty low. I am waiting for a response from him on if he has the SS or FLEX.

Thanks for the info!

If you leave the a finger gap you should be ok with a decent ride. I have my damping set on 12 all the way around. 16 is the softest setting. Its is a bit different than a stock ride but overall better than HFP suspension, from what I have been told.

I wouldn't say it is completely off base. Of course you won't get the EDFC with just lowering springs and stock shocks but the damper curves on Tein's lower end stuff (and some would argue all Tein's stuff) are not at all optimum for performance. That coupled with the fact that most people won't actually take the time to properly corner weight and align their car after they dump it (which also hurts MacP cars by lowering them out of their optimum dynamic camber curve) which will end up making a car that may "feel" like it handles better but in the end really would post inferior numbers if instrument tested.

And how exactly do the mechanics of "corner-weighting" work? I've heard of that before but never really understood it.

It the most rudimentary terms it allows your car to perform the best all around, and corner equally well in either direction because all 4 tires have the same weight pressing down on them.

Do you have the SS or Flex?

I was wondering how much harsher the ride is with the Flex vs. the SS's...

"crappier ride handling"? Hell no. Crappier ride. Possibly, depending on preference. Coilovers usually ride stiffer than traditional springs depending on the setting you have it on. But if you get the right set and have the right settings the handling will be soo much better.
