01 Civic Transmission Problems - is that common?
I have an '01 Civic that has run like a champ for the past 5 years and I have had NO problems with it at all. It passed the 60k tune up with flying colors.
Now at almost EXACTLY 75k miles, a loud noise started that has been diagnosed as needle bearings in the transmission that need to be replaced. This is obviously very expensive work, to get the tranny out, but I am wondering if this is common with this car? I have had other Hondas (Accords mostly) that ran for more than 15 years, it's just surprising to me that the 'newer' models have issues at only 5 years. Of course, it was right after the warranty expired.
Is there anything else that I should keep in mind, or is now the time to sell it?
p.s. I am working with a VERY trustworthy independent mechanic, so this isn't just dealership hype.
