I have never had a car with v-tec before but mine is making a mettallic pinging/rattling sound above 5500 rpms. Is this normal? Should I take it into the dealer and have them check it out? Its a 06 DX 5 spd

 

I don't think a metallic/pinging sound coming from the engine is ever good

what kind of gas are you using or what station do you go to?

 

I noticed my Vtec engagement took on a different sound. Not too different, but noticeable after i put in my mods. No rattling or pinging though. Just louder.

Can u really even feel the Vtec kick in on a DX?? not sure..my dealership never even had a DX..we didn't feel like we would sell them...not making fun of u..just curious..is it a SOHC VTEC?

Doesn't matter. At that RPM, that sound should not be made. Warranty.

i can't even hear vtec on my dads 06 EX coupe.... so any noise about 5500 rpms that sounds odd should probably be checked out.

 

....I know previous years the trim levels might have differentiated in engine builds.... but this year:

Si: k20z3
DX/LX/EX: R18a1

 

i get a noticeable whirring noise... is that what you meant?

pinging is def not right..

 

Ill take it into the dealer because it was not making this noise before.

Its the R18A1 SOHC I-VTECH
